I’ve seen how cringeworthy Linus talks about & interacts with his wife Yvonne on camera, and the bro culture in the company is clearly visible in a lot of videos.
@maikelfrias No that’s the thing: The current outrage is about their testing, reviews & looking down on other creators. The target audience mostly doesn’t give a shit about misogyny. But now there’s some momentum for criticism, and that allows people like Madison to speak out.
I don’t get my hopes up that anything will change in that regard though.
I’m not sure whether this is easily fixable though. While LMG might improve the main reason for the current outrage (their testing standards & processes) to excellence, their social skills are obviously stuck in the early 2000s. That’s an issue with the mindset of each and every employee that’s working there, and it’ll take years to fix – if it’s possible at all.
@scy I think you absolutely can fix company culture for a medium size business but it has to come from the inside, just declaring "we don't do that anymore" does nothing. Introspection is needed and if someone is not able to change they have to be kicked out. But when the management does not realize what's happening then I see no way of them fixing it. In no way it will be easy.
@dunkelstern Well I don’t know how Terren feels about these things, and whether he’ll be doing something about it, but it’s painfully obvious that Linus isn’t suited for that task at all.
@scy yeah sounds like it from what i heard and saw on wan show. I mean i have to confess i watch a lot of their more chaotic videos for entertainment, but I am strongly considering not doing that anymore until i see something change. I hope they see a wave of unsubscribers like me and act on it (but i doubt it, 15 Million subscribers... that will only slightly dent their graphs)
So, while I’m sure they’ll deliver on their testing & benchmarking promises, I can’t support LMG anymore until they’ve gotten rid of their misogyny, improved gender (and other tbh) diversity in their company, and stopped exploiting their employees.
I’ve cancelled my #Floatplane subscription and unsubscribed from their channels on #YouTube.
