I was going to mess around with Lemmy but I enabled 2FA yesterday, and somehow failed to update 1Password with the 2FA. So, I guess I've lost that account. 🤷
There were no recovery codes offered when I enabled 2FA. Sigh.
I've got a few of the Trans Pride's interesting in learning about the Fediverse. Instead of making a video like I said a few days ago I think the easier option at this stage is to make a few written documents.
An Essay explaining what the Fediverse is, How to join it and why you should care.
A Presintation for me to show off in Meetings, Calls and in person to expalin it to someone who doesn't want to read the documents.
Optional: Make a video to explain it, so I can send it to people but this is the last thing I will most likely do for this.
Have you even tried #Piefed? Piefed.social is:
"A lemmy/kbin clone written in Python with Flask.
-Clean, simple code that is easy to understand and contribute to. No fancy design patterns or algorithms.
-Easy setup, easy to manage - few dependencies and extra software required.
-AGPL.
-First class moderation tools."
It's actually really quite nice, and I don't hear much noise about it. Go give this project a look at https://piefed.social.
Activitypub or Atproto ... one item that both Mastodon have in common with Bluesky is amount of "spam" links and accounts boosting those "spammy" accounts
Several "award winning art / photo" profiles I saw had 5 or more links including their pinned post
Win goes to Bluesky since they seem to have better control of that ... for now
Over 8 months ago now, I started using the Fediverse, messing around with different instances.
I'm glad I've found a pretty good instance of Mastodon.social instead of using Lemmy, Kbin / Mbin or other things like PixelFed.
I'm not saying I'll not use these in the future, but I want a main account for the Fediverse to help bring family and friends in as well as learn the basics & complex parts of the fediverse.
We started this account less than 6 months ago. It's going pretty well – thanks to you: 4.2k followers, lots of interactions, questions, and comments. 🎉
A couple of weeks ago, the European Broadcasting Union (#EBU) asked us to write a guest article about our experience with #Mastodon / the #Fediverse, explain the basics, and point out the advantages. :mastodon:
Challenge accepted. 👍
So here's the finished post by @lxplm, hot off the #blog press. ⌨️
@dw_innovation Since you're posting mostly articles, do consider (cross-)posting to #lemmy as well, as it's way more set for these sort of posts. You can even post in to lemmy from mastodon by @-ing the community you want.
Thanks for putting in something awesome, @ernest! Not sure if you want feedback, but functionality is as full as I know it to be. Maybe better. It is really fast right now! Hope you are on the mend.
There was a bug with KBin some days ago where it would send huge amounts of federation activities to Lemmy instances which would overload them. To mitigate this, lemmy.world and some other instances had to block kbin.social. I believe the .world admins tried to get in contact with @ernest. You can read some more details here.
I would also suggest that you and Ernest join the Lemmy Admin chat on Matrix where this problem was found and discussed.
Posting in a community will automatically tag the post with the name of the community. For example, followers of #climate will soon see posts from climate@slrpnk.net
Not sure if you noticed but half the #ThreadVerse is memes. They're not my thing but I enjoyed putting together the best meme consumption experience I could.
Is anyone here familiar with setting up and hosting a Lemmy instance? I think an Irish instance would be great (the same way we have an Irish Mastodon instance).
/kbin is feeling great right now

How does Sharkey compare to Mastodon?
To those who have used both which do you prefer overall?...
