So the annoying thing about the T61 #Thinkpad is that it likes to ventilate continuously and noisily. It’s always kinda hot compared to modern devices. Cats like it.
At first I thought the HD was grinding on something before I remembered it’s a SSD and the noise comes from the fan. Same on #Haiku and #Linux.

Our work advances with MidoriVPN, a private and secure system that uses #wireguard Multiple instances and mesh technology. Soon to be integrated into #midoribrowser.
Embarrassed to say that the only reason I won't try an #Arch based #linux#distro is because I'm so used to #apt I can't bring myself to try another #packagemanager.
Nitter is not dead. The alternative twitter/x front-end,is still working. Yes, now there are just a few public instances (nitter.poast.org is one of them), but with just a basic linux and docker knowledge you can self-host your own private instance.
I just did a fresh install in the past week-ish to migrate to KDE from GNOME, and wanted a fresh start.
ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 (AMD): Debian 12 with GNOME
Previously ran Pop!_OS with the development version of COSMIC DE. I wanted a Debian-based laptop to more closely reflect the Debian servers that I use to host my Wait Wait Stats stuff. I'm not going testing or unstable, since I don't run those on my servers.
Surface Pro 3: Fedora 40 (KDE spin)
I did a fresh install this week to clear out some of the lingering issues from an install of a pre-release version of the KDE spin of Fedora 40.
I initially wanted to see how FreeBSD would run on the Surface Pro 3, but I didn't want to tempt fate as I sometimes take the Surface with me on the go.
Finally wrote about a topic, I have been thinking for a long time: a KDE Apps initiative. There are already more than 200 KDE Apps, but this is not enough. So let's more KDE apps together!
Here's my take on the Recall crapware that's been added to Windoze:
Recall will make use of on-device processing for some time, if/when "incompatible" Copilot+PCs receive support, the learning will be processed on a server.
Local processing will "become" an opt-in feature (because why not) and cloud processing (read: data-mining) becomes the default.
Local processing becomes a paid feature ( i.e the "Pro/Plus" tier) and is no longer available for regular users.
Users enjoy using Windows 11 despite knowing that literally everything they do on their computers (which IMO was never theirs from the start - if they've been using Windows) is up for grabs
now not only can Microsoft get access to all your data, heckers can too (how very generous of Microsoft)
It's a little sad that people have realised this late that #windows is horrible, but it's never too late to switch to a better operating system. Switch to #Linux today! It respects your privacy and has so much choice.
