My jaw kinda dropped a bit when I saw Martin Short on this YouTube video saying the most horrendous things about why he’s never tried Korean food. I know the schtick of trying to get someone to change their mind on a show is interesting, but in this case his comments are so horrendous I just don’t care if he ends up liking the food or not. How can you live somewhere with the best Koreatown, be alive in 2023 and still say these things?
Overhearing some guys speaking #Korean at this coffee shop.
Every time I hear the language, I like the cadence and tone of it, I recall that it has a writing system that's designed to be very easy to learn, and think to myself, "Could it be that hard to learn?" ;)
I like Japanese, too, and while hiragana/katakana are easy to learn, Kanji scares the pants offa me. XD
If oppa (오빠) can be used on a romantic setting. Should that mean that nuna (누나) can be an option, if the woman is older than the man ? 🤔 #Korean#LanguageLearning
As an #Asian myself, I'm happy to see that ideas, developers, and software from #Japan are going mainstream. There are a lot of things the West, and the world for that matter, can learn from Japan.
Not only from the Japanese, to be exact, even from #Korean made software. I talked about last year how #Korea created its own Internet culture that not even #Google and #Microsoft can compete with. (See: #Naver's amazing interconnected platforms; what Google would have been if they had a vision.)
The worst type of #tourist in #Japan are the westerners who complain about #Chinese tourists (quite often, actually #Taiwanese, #Korean or #SEAsian but they don't know or care to tell the difference) and don't realize that it's actually them who are the most annoying.
I see way more bad or stupid behavior, especially in #Kyoto, from western tourists than Asian tourists.
순대 (soondae/sundae/sunde) is a type of Korean food made from innards and blood. The number one trigger for people with gout.
Here in the #Philippines we have something similar called #Dinuguan. A local food made from innards and blood.
So, similarly, when you visit the Philippines, avoid dinuguan if you have gout. If you still want to enjoy your vacation. 😋
As someone with gout, you need to be aware that #blood as food, and innards, is very common in many countries and cultures. Always ask, don't eat anything just because you don't want to be rude. Your #health and #fitness should be your number one concern.
Here in the Philippines, people will understand if you refuse. No one, let me repeat, no one, will take offence. We perfectly understand.
But if we do laugh because you refused, you should not take offence either. It's a friendly laugh, nothing else. We also laugh at each other if we don't like the taste of a certain food from a different region. Filipinos are just a happy bunch of diverse people.
So I’m watching this documentary on Netflix, “Yellow Door: 90’s Lo-fi Film Club” about some #korean film directors who got their start there and they’re talking about info gathering info in the early 90s. These were mostly university students.
Question to anyone #GenX in #Korea in the early #90s , what was #internet access like then if at all? Usenet or email available?
I literally never want to hear #americans talk about #Chinese or North #Korean#people being "brainwashed" after seeing how easily manipulated they were into supporting #Israel
Short and sweet, but packs a whole lot of punch, this Korean drama is about a mystical bar where people can find help to solve their "grudges" and the mysterious people who run it.
I didn't care for Goblin.i only stayed for the second couple's story and would have totally watched the drama if it was just their story. Sure, the 2Ls got so popular that they made a romcom together, but I wanted to see this tragic pair finally heal their love in their next life.
Met an American expat, living in Japan for 13+ years, and has basically had zero interactions with any non-Japanese, non-westerners in #Japan (#SoutheastAsian, #Chinese, #Korean and #SouthAsian) during that entire time.
It's amazing the bubbles people can live in and then pretend to "understand" #Japan.
Now free for all to read... In the Insadong district of Seoul, I noticed the name of a famous international chain was written in very large Korean script. But why?
However, i realized i could step up the #korean aquiring game. If all the kids nowadays can learn englisch by watching youtube and tiktok, i can do it, too!
I am kidding, i knew this before, obviously, that i could watch korean yt videos, but it was mostly frustrating and boring.
But you know what i love? Freaking Booktube!
And it exists in korea, too. Do i care that i only understand like 30%? No, because there are freaking book covers lol
