This was honestly not the direction I thought I'd go when I started the project. But that's the fun of just following what interests you!
I originally thought I'd focus on the 16-bit DOS games, with the knowledge that I'd surely be tackling 32-bit DOS games eventually, in order to support the later SCUMM titles. But then true FM-Towns support happened, which was a fun rathole. Once that was done, there was just Curse of Monkey Island left in the "SCUMM" category, which tricked me into adding minimal Windows support. But from there, going full on into substantial Win32 and DirectX emulation to support 3D games? So not in the original plan!
DREAMM 2.1 is officially released for Windows, MacOS, and Linux targets (x64 and ARM64). DREAMM is a bespoke emulator for LucasArts titles running on DOS, Windows, and FMTowns platforms.
A lot of people are upset about the Hollywood trend of having our childhood heros face their own decline. (See #LukeSkywalker, #NickFury, #IndianaJones, etc.) But the truth is, this is a long standing trope in hero sagas.
Think Beowulf, King David, King Arthur.
Heroes don't stay heroes in literature. The fallen hero is not a new trope.
Playing the FM Towns ports of #MonkeyIsland 1 & 2 and #IndianaJones and the #FateOfAtlantis in @aaronsgiles's DREAMM emulator, I noticed the Save/Load GUI is clunkier than the original PC versions in a couple of ways.
If you scroll down the savegame list to load a game, the next time the GUI comes up, it won't remember where you were like on PC, but always starts from the top.
And once you select a game to load, it doesn't load immediately; you have to hit the "OK" button first as well.
In the archaeological digs that are my storage rooms, I found two treasures! These additional adventures of the fedora-wearing, gun-toting, Nazi-punching Professor with a whip were penned by Rob MacGregor and would be lovely additions to any Indiana Jones collection.
So this happened earlier this week at #SIGGRAPH2023. The Master of masters, the #VFX legend, the one and only Dennis Muren. Now I can (almost) die happy.
It was funny because while I was fumbling with my phone, Dennis was telling me "getting too much glare from the lights"
@jsnell Just finished listening to one of your #IndianaJones episodes (#674) on @incomparable and was surprised to hear a commercial for "The US Border Patrol: The nation's largest law enforcement organization!" preceding the episode.
While I understand and agree when y'all call out certain things in movies that aren't "correct" nowadays (Colonialism, non-POC actors playing POC, etc), maybe not air ads from USBP. The same can be said of them lately... 😳
Went to see #Oppenheimer and wondering why so many people like it that much?
Sure it has good actors but other than that the story is a bit… boring. And unnecessarily complicated. Maybe it’s because I couldn’t understand some of the dialogues 🤷
Also why, oh why, did they have to make the sounds SO loud??
I’ll tell you a secret: I preferred #IndianaJones ❤️
@elduvelle Exactly my experience (including preferring #indianajones ). #oppenheimer feels as if Nolan simply must edit non-chronologically, whether it supports the story, experience, or point of the film. Worked for Memento, interesting with Dunkirk, the point of Tenet, but useless in Oppie
Question for #LucasArts buffs: this frame of animation from the #IndianaJones and the #LastCrusade game appears in the 2020 Video Game History Foundation stream about the #MonkeyIsland 1 source code. However, I can't find any matching frame in the game itself or in the resource files. Can anyone else find it, or is it a cut animation? #adventuregames
