The improbable town of Columbus, Indiana. A small, southern Indiana town that has more than 60 public buildings designed by a “who's who” of modern architects — Pei, Saarinen, Pelli, Meier, Weese, Venturi.
So how did this happen?
Starting in the 1950s, local philanthropist J. Irwin Miller launched a program to subsidize public buildings in Columbus … he would pay the architect’s fees as long as the architect was selected from his list of global architects.
How many industrial incidents could be prevented if proper procedures were followed & reports were not ignored?
Former Goodall rubber plant in NJ burning down, taking multiple businesses with it. No exact cause has been made public, but there seems to have been masses of improperly stored flammable objects on pallets literally all over outside the building.
Nearby roads closed & temporary power lines installed to get nearby residents back in their homes.
A group of #FortWayne#Indiana#LGBTQ teens and their allies are self-funding and producing their high school play after it was cancelled by their school administration among parental complaints.
The play starts tomorrow.
So far, they have raised over $80,000 for their $50,000 dollar goal and all their profits are going into a fund to support other teens who have their plays cancelled for similar reasons.
Hey #HoosierSocial, our little corner of the Fediverse is now listed on the official https://joinmastodon.org/servers list under the North America -> Regional category. Thanks to all of you for your membership and participation!
I have respect for Dr. Box. Because of my work, I was fortunate enough to meet her and interact with her a little bit, which helps to give perspective you can't get by only reading news. Optimistic about Dr. Weaver and her commitment to improving #PublicHealth in #Indiana

I live in #GarfieldPark in #Indianapolis with my boyfriend (Wade), two grouchy cats (Cosmo and Tiva), one hyper border collie (Deetz), and a lizard (Rosco).
For fans of #Indiana, #KurtVonnegut and #Bokonon, here is a prime example of a #granfalloon. I'm posting this video of #VileIniquity, whose music makes the food in my stomach move around in unpleasant ways. Why? Because my #Hoosier daughter's friend's son plays in the band. So help me, I'll probably go to see them live next time I visit.
Hi #HoosierSocial Community! I'm humbled by the number of new account registrations we had today. I hope that you enjoy #Mastodon and our little #Indiana focused corner of the #Fediverse.
I had the pleasure of taking part in the national #ACLU Leadership Forum. I spoke with Yasmin Cader from the Trone Center for Justice and Equality and Brigitte Amiri, Deputy Director of the Reproductive Freedom Project about the links between our efforts to protect #abortion access and #trans rights here in #Indiana and across the country.
Hi all! Writing an introduction or a bio is always a challenge, but here we go. I'm Shire, a thirtysomething in #Indiana, USA, currently focusing on personal and professional development as I rediscover who I am and where I fit in this not-really-post-pandemic world.
Art-wise: I absolutely adore #crochet and fiber arts in general, and have been working on designing some crochet patterns in the hopes of sharing them with the world. I'm also a #writer (mostly essays, but also trying my hand at horror fiction) and #baker.
Professionally, I am a #librarian focused on reader's advisory. If you ever need book recommendations, I'm your dude! My professional focus is improving access to libraries for LGBTQ+ people, which is currently an uphill battle, particularly in my home state.
I live with my partner and three cats. I'm also learning to play #bass and hope to start voice lessons again in the near future to regain my #singing voice.
For those looking for new #musicians on #Mastodon / #Fediverse to follow this #BandcampFriday, I highly recommend this .csv made by @radiofreefedi you can import in Preferences > Import & Export > Import > Following List > Merge! :MOULE_Happy:
This is interesting to watch as a 3rd party. I’ve been following @limebar because of the #Indiana thing and follow @greymatter because he is a fellow #MastoAdmin. To watch them find & follow each other is cool!
Indiana Gov. Holcomb signs 68 bills into law including limiting which animals can be service animals for the #Disabled and #Blind, also limits when and where a disabled or blind person can use their service animal in public.
