Apparently, there is potential asbestos exposure at Place du portage III right now. If you know public servants working there, they might want to go to a collab space for the rest of the week.
Saturday: Slept in, went for 18.8 km of #Cycling around #Ottawa and #Gatineau in the cold (4°C) rain. Just enough to close my activity ring for the day. Wore wrong gloves, so my finger tips got quite wet and cold.
Time to get on with my digital puttering and another mug of tea.
Friday: 150 seconds of plank, 11 minutes of runner's yoga, 30 minutes of strength training (#AppleFitness), then 5.3 km of #running (7°C), and then 24.5 km of #cycling.
Typing all that out now feels like it was a lot for a Friday morning, but all in all, it felt pretty good.
Can confirm that the William Commanda bridge between Ottawa and Gatineau is open, but we still have to deke around a barrier to reach it. Not quite sure why the path is still barricaded. #ottawa#gatineau#ottbike
This is the most National Capital Region thing ever....
"A shawarma dispute may be heading to the Federal Court, with Ottawa restaurant Shawarma Palace seeking more than $5 million in damages for alleged trademark infringement by a Gatineau shawarma restaurant."
The abrupt resignation of Gatineau Mayor France Bélisle last week is a stark reminder of how toxic politics has become. Elected in 2021, she resigned because she no longer wanted to keep participating in the current political climate, and she had received death threats.
Just the latest example of good people being forced out of politics in this increasingly hostile and misogynistic environment.
Somehow, we need to break this spiral. #Mysogyny#politics#gatineau
This looks so great. I want this for #Ottawa#Gatineau. I worry the loss of our mayor might make it less likely, but the more positive examples the better. The all season part is key.
“Gatineau Mayor France Bélisle announced she would be immediately stepping down from her post. Bélisle said the hostile political climate, including a number of death threats she had received, led to her resignation only three years after she was elected.”

I'm not new to Mastodon... been around long enough to feel the loss of my toot history as I change to my self-hosted instance.
I'm largely interested in sustainability and community, and generally follow people who will help to expand my awareness and optimism. The second seems somewhat hard to come by these days. I also addictively follow politics, which doesn't help the optimism.
A friend posted these on Facebook of the lighting programming for Winterlude taking place on a bridge in Gatineau overnight. Not every day you need a police escort and a road closure to do LX work.
Hey, I’m thinking about finally getting an eyebrow piercing. Haven’t done any of that since I got my second earring holes as a teenager. Back then I went through a jeweller but I don’t want to go that way this time. Does anyone know a reliable shop for that in Gatineau or Ottawa? I know I should do my research but I have no idea how to do it or what to ask (let’s face it, someone with bad practices definitely won’t admit it if I ask!). Plus, I just plain don’t have the spoons…
