I took an online subscription to #MarionCountyRecord today to show my support for #freedomofthepress and to help them fight this latest red state attack on our freedoms.
Seven police and sheriff's officers in Kansas on Friday raided the Marion County Record newspaper and its publisher’s house, raising concerns over freedom of the press in the United States.
This is story is wild: a police department raided the Marion County Record in retaliation because one of the reporters viewed information on an influential person; there was no affidavit filed to obtain the search warrant, and several elderly people were put under undue stress and endangered, and in fact one, Joan Meyer, has died.
The cops are now "withdrawing the warrant"--after disrupting the paper's operation, costing them money, and with the stress causing the death of one of the co-owners, now they go, "oopsies, here's your shit, no harm done"?
The paper is bringing a federal suit and GOOD FOR THEM.
5/X And this is also all about #journalism and freedom of the #press.
Already we've seen an episode in which the MP's from #TheFinns -party and #TheCoalitionParty harassed a young #journalist for days, because she wrote a critical column about the Finns party, and, for instance, their will to narrow free media.
The harassment was so bad, that even #IPI condemned it with strong words.
