“Improved build validation, increased moderation, and the long-awaited switch to libappstream” by @barthalion
Heads up to app developers: Flathub’s automatic build validation is more thorough now, and includes checks for issues we previously would have only flagged manually. There’s a chance that if your app has been passing continuous integration checks previously, it will fail now; here's why, and what to do about it:
Great news: Thanks to recent @flathub changes, adaptive Flathub apps are now actually shown as that in GNOME Software! Previously they were all marked as desktop-only. You'll start seeing this more and more as apps update 😁️
I want to write a blog post or something documenting how using Flathub on Steam Deck desktop looks and works, but I don’t have a Steam Deck. Sounds like I just justified buying one!
Evolution 3.50.4 is out with several fixes. The most important one are enabled HTML5 features in OAuth2 webview which are required by some online services.
It's the last bug fixing release before the next major stable release - 3.52. You can get a taste of it in the beta channel of #Flathub where we shipped 3.51.2, the last development release before 3.52.
Hello, world! 👋 It’s your friendly neighborhood app store here on the Fediverse! Check our profile, we’re verified. 😎
Speaking of which… if you’re an app developer and want to get your app verified on Flathub, check the docs! If you need any help, give us a shout here.
Cute game I came across recently: Parlera! It’s sort of like that “Heads Up!” mobile game, but you can add your own word lists or use it for charades, drawing games, etc. Works on Android (Google Play and F-Droid) and Linux (Flathub):
Welp, there goes the idea of (paid) indie games for that mobile platform. 😐 Given #Flathub works on a payment backend it would've been best for #LinuxPhone's as a whole to go that route instead of doing their own sandboxing around apk. #MobileLinux devices will never get out of the niche they're in that way even if the GUI is ever so fancy.
Couldn't find hard info regarding #mobian or #ubports about this. 😐
Personally, I'm OK with TDF trying to market on every new release, but I think some infobars ought to be combined and there should be a unified web landing page for engaging users to help with contributions (technical or monetary).
Flathubbers¹ will be at #FOSDEM2024! Read about our BoF session and where you can find us around the event in Brussels this coming weekend. I hope to see you there!
If an open source app developer says their app is only officially available and supported from one specific build, but you would like to distribute it somewhere else, so the app author has added an in-app note when running from an unsupported package saying it's not supported, do you still package it, and how?
As always, you can follow it @tlenewspodcast or from any good podcast client, and don't hesitate to leave reviews to make the show more noticeable to other people!
And if you like that audio show, but you'd like to get daily updates instead, head over the Patreon page (link in the shownotes), and you'll get exactly that!

Fake wallet app with verified status possibly with malware was on Flathub briefly: https://github.com/sparrowwallet/sparrow/issues/1#issuecomment-1913714626
Looks like the malware on Snap store type incident will most likely be surface on Flathub also. Flathub does not appear to make it easy to report dangerous or suspicious apps. Couldn't find any link for that on the #Flathub website.
In this one, we have #Apple, being their usual selves and implementing the latest EU laws in the worst way possible, we have some #Wayland drama around the tiniest of feature, and we have #Flathub reaching 1M active users, and 1.6 billion downloads.
Plus spme really good (and some bad) news for Linux #gaming
Gentle reminder that when you build apps for #Flatpak you can choose to publish in a store like #AppCenter or #FlatHub, but you can also host your own and completely avoid platform rules and fees. No walled gardens and your apps are available to the entire family of Linux-based operating systems
