It turns out the reasons why many cultures, ancient and modern, loathe moneylenders (observation I owe to the late David Graeber) are all still there in the modern #debt collection industry, with a side of algorithmic harassment as described by @pluralistic . The vast majority of America's debt collection targets $500-2,000 credit card debts. It is a filthy business, operated by lawless firms who hire unskilled workers drawn from the same economic background as their targets, who routinely and grotesquely flout the law, but only when it comes to the people with the least ability to pay.

@jon I suspected so, but EU already had an effect in tech. Since social media is now so relevant in politics, politics should be serious about social media compatility with the politics of choice.
Are there political movements in the EU which take the problem seriously enough?
I work in #academia in several European projects, and recently interoperable and open (#FAIR) practices have been gaining traction, so at least there is a pool of experts who can support and develop this common good.
