The stench of hypocrisy surrounding the Eurovision this year was just astounding.
While Israel was performing at #Eurovision, their troops were murdering displaced Palestinians in Rafah, bombing UNDP building and invading parts of Gaza they had declared "safe" for refugees.
And then this POS hypocrite who was so strongly supporting the ban on Russia 2 years ago is now acting like "music and entertainment is not politics".
Switzerland's Nemo wins the 68th Eurovision Song Contest with “The Code,” an ode to the singer’s journey toward embracing their nongender identity. Read more from the AP, including how the audience responded to Eden Golan, the Israeli singer who spent the week under tight security in Malmö. https://flip.it/3Z-pjc #Culture#Entertainment#Music#Eurovision
#Eurovision All the disbelief about the high public vote for Israel shows how on social media we tend to live in echo chambers of like minded people. If everyone did think like we do then we wouldn’t get the governments we do voted in.
I will say though, as a child of 90s eurodance, I will be adding the Austrian entry to my playlists immediately. I also just still enjoy the Finnish entry immensely. #eurovision
🫤 #esc#esc2024#Eurosong#europapa#joostklein
And now the cleanup can begin. Dear #EBU, you have a lot of explaining to do. Overdubbing the booing from the audience. Disqualifying the Netherlands. This years #Eurovision was filled with wonderful music and artists, but your politics, dear EBU, yes, YOUR politics at this event, where you loudly claim it’s unpolitical — it stinks.
YOU, dear #EBU, with your arrogant and intransparent handling of YOUR actions and decisions, YOU made #Eurovision political. Now accept that responsibility and make things right. Music HAS the power to be political and cause change. And that is a GOOD thing. So grow some b*lls, fix your mess and do better. Thank you.
I've been scrolling through the #Eurovision hashtag, and there is so so much love and joy from non-binary, trans and other people about Nemo's success (and also the general wonderfulness of Bambie Thug).
And it's beautiful. Honestly, just so beautiful.
Love to all of you, you fantastic bunch of humans.
Staying up late hoping for the #auroraborealis to come back... (no luck so far and might have to give up soon) but glad to hear that #Switzerland :blobcat_flagEnby: has won #eurovision (and not, for example, a country currently engaged in genocide who should definitely have been banned if only the #ebu weren't cowardly hypocrites)
If it "would not be appropriate" for #Netherlands to take part in #eurovision while an investigation by the Swedish police is taking place, why exactly is it just fine for a certain other country to take part while an investigation by the ICC is taking place?
I'm not saying that threatening production crew members is fine; it's just really not on the same level as War Crimes and Genocide though, is it, #ebu?
To be clear, I don’t have a problem with the people of Israel, nor necessarily the woman who performed for them.
But the song was standard, dull as shit #Eurovision fayre that wouldn’t have got a second glance if the worst people weren’t queuing up to show their solidarity for Netanyahu’s genocide of Palestinians.
Sweden wanted so hard to host #eurovision, congrats Sweden. You made cgi abba, arrested greta thunberg, muted the audience to hide the booing over the genocidal country you let in, and forgot to set the stage for the winner. Good jorb all around, clap clap.
