I finished the second book in the saga titled "The Tombs of Atuan". It's great.
It follows the story of Tenar, a girl taken to an old temple in the desert to be the priestess devoted to the "Nameless Ones", ancient gods long forgotten.
She was very lonely there; all her life changed when she met Ged, the first book's protagonist, who was in the underground labyrinth under the temple looking for an ancient relic. This encounter completely changes Tenar's life.
The main topics of the book are freedom, gender, and the power relations emanating between those, reflecting the anarchist views of Ursula.
New on my blog is the second half of my top 10 imaginary worlds. I get a bit deeper this time (or go on a bit more!), as these are ones that have shaped me as a writer.
Every time I read this book from now until the end of time I will remember one of the coolest things that happened to me. I don't remember how to conversation started, but I replied to a thread on twitter about books. I said I was reading Tehanu for the first time. And the actor who plays Paul Stamets (Star Trek) replied to me! We had a convo about how great the series was.
I've organized all 78 of the videos I've produced so far on the works and thought of Ursula K Leguin into one playlist. The vast majority of them are on her Earthsea novels and stories, and cover all the series' main characters, ideas, and plot points!
I imagine Ged from Ursula K. Le Guin's 'A Wizard of #earthsea ' as a bit of a scrappy, shaken fellow toward the end of the book. I created a #watercolor of this piece before drawing out the #pixelart so a physical copy exists in my #sketchbook I never get tired of reading Ursula's words. She really had it together. She said so much with so little.
I have never read "A Wizard of Earthsea", any of the #Earthsea books, or in fact, any #UrsulaKLeGuin. Fixing that now and... I am enthralled. It's been a long time since I've just wanted to spend the entire day completely immersed in a book. 📚 🧙🐉🐦⬛✨
