Hey, I’m thinking of setting up a new song contest where you can vote as many times you want for the contestant of your choice (but only 20 votes per credit card, we don’t want it to appear like a money grab after all). I’m also thinking it should be a safe space for apartheid states committing genocide. Oh wait, sorry, Eurovision already exists.
And now the cleanup can begin. Dear #EBU, you have a lot of explaining to do. Overdubbing the booing from the audience. Disqualifying the Netherlands. This years #Eurovision was filled with wonderful music and artists, but your politics, dear EBU, yes, YOUR politics at this event, where you loudly claim it’s unpolitical — it stinks.
Staying up late hoping for the #auroraborealis to come back... (no luck so far and might have to give up soon) but glad to hear that #Switzerland :blobcat_flagEnby: has won #eurovision (and not, for example, a country currently engaged in genocide who should definitely have been banned if only the #ebu weren't cowardly hypocrites)
The more the #EBU (European Broadcast Union) insists that #Eurovision isn't political, the louder the criticism gets. Eurovision always was political, no matter how loud they tried to deny it. So now we see the Streisand Effect in full force. It will be an interesting evening in Malmö.
No #Eurovision thread from me this year. The #EBU made too many mistakes and is completely ignorant of what is happening outside their closed circle. Have a wonderful evening y'all!
I don’t care for #eurovision, and if I did, I would have not watched, due to Israel’s participation. I don’t blame the 20 year old girl coming out for Israel though, just the organization (EBU) itself.
With regards to #joostklein: no idea what happened, but I do find it abject that apparently for the #ebu you’re not innocent until proven otherwise. What if he wins? In sports events, if you use doping, your medal gets revoked after the fact.
Let’s all share #europapa.💙 https://youtu.be/nRdY-UYWdXQ?si=kKCDUF8DIVVURFdZ
Israel makes it through to the final of the Eurovision Song Contest (although the booing will be dubbed out).
Have always wondered, why does the Middle Eastern country Israel take part in the Eurovision Song Contest anyway?
Now I'm guessing that, as Hitler & Nazism and Mussolini & Fascism were European innovations, Netanyahu and Likud and their brutal ideology (Zionism?) fit right in?
"The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI), a founding member of the #BDS movement, calls for the boycott of #Eurovision 2024.
We urge all participating broadcasters, national competitors, finalists, production crews, and viewers to boycott the contest following the refusal of the organisers, the European Broadcasting Union (#EBU), to ban genocidal #Israel.
Palestinians call on supporters to launch creative, strategic initiatives that can pressure broadcasters to withdraw, and appeal to all participants to refuse to be complicit in the EBU’s whitewash of #apartheid Israel’s genocide against 2.3 million #Palestinians in #Gaza.
Venues and events organisers planning Eurovision screening parties should refuse to do so, and instead hold Apartheid-Free or #Genocide-Free alternative Eurovision events, including teach-ins/workshops/panels about Israel’s cynical #pinkwashing and #artwashing. ..."
We started this account less than 6 months ago. It's going pretty well – thanks to you: 4.2k followers, lots of interactions, questions, and comments. 🎉
A couple of weeks ago, the European Broadcasting Union (#EBU) asked us to write a guest article about our experience with #Mastodon / the #Fediverse, explain the basics, and point out the advantages. :mastodon:
Challenge accepted. 👍
So here's the finished post by @lxplm, hot off the #blog press. ⌨️
#Eurovision2024: #Russia was rightly banned from #Eurovision after its invasion of #Ukraine. I do not understand why the #EBU has not banned #Israel after its genocidal war on the people of #Gaza.
Israel's past entries have been brilliant but there must be no automatic right to take part. I'm a Eurovision fan, especially after #Brexit, and I don't like the idea of excluding any country but Israel's actions are beyond the pale. There must be a peaceful solution.
BDS Movement: Update: Palestinians call to ban genocidal Israel from Eurovision
"The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) and the Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate call on the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to ban Israel from the Eurovision Song Contest – the world’s biggest live music event – or face widespread boycotts.
Israel, considered an apartheid state by major human rights organisations worldwide, is accused by South Africa, supported by tens of states, of genocide against Palestinians in Gaza at the International Court of Justice.
A senior UN human rights official and a prominent Israeli scholar of the Holocaust and genocide have described Israel’s war on the 2.3 million Palestinians in the occupied and besieged Gaza as “a textbook case of genocide.” Dozens of UN experts and hundreds of international law scholars have also warned of “a genocide in the making.” …"
#eurovision / Following protesters in #Finland, #Iceland and #Norway, over one thousand Swedish artists and singers have signed a letter calling on the European Broadcasting Union to exclude Israel from the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest.
“The fact that countries that place themselves above humanitarian law are welcomed to participate in international cultural events trivialises violations of international law and makes the suffering of the victims invisible,”
Eurovision: the Swedish city of Malmö will host the music contest in 2024.
The southern Swedish city will host the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest in the same venue that housed the colourful and eclectic music competition in 2013, the Swedish organisers said on Friday.
In 2012, singer Loreen won for the first time. She came out on top again in the 2023 edition with her song 'Tattoo.'
On #Twitter trends #ChaChaCha is number 1 (Not that I can see what has been written, since I don't have an account there aymore).
We didn't win, but perhaps #Finland is the turning point for #Eurovision - after this they must consider does jury have too much to say in the final result.
Neverthless, we had a magnificant artist and dancers, and a banger song to give you all!
