For almost 4 decades I have been obsessed with #drums. I air drummed all over everything. I spent a good 8 years playing the crap out of Rock Band's Pro/Expert drum mode and destroying at least 3 of those fake plastic toys. But it DID teach me some fundamentals...
Today, at 47 years old, I finally have the real thing. (Sure, they're digital drums, but you get my meaning.)
This is my drum kit. There are many others like it, but this one is mine.
Speaking of the Ensoniq VFX-SD, it was advertised as the “First Music Production Synthesizer”. They must have meant within the Ensoniq family of synthesizers, because this came out in 1989, and before it, there is at least one that precedes it, in 1988. See reply to learn what it is.
Periodic reminder I'm still looking for electronica bands with acoustic drums, either featured in their studio productions or live performances. Streaming platforms' matching algorithms can't be that specific, so any suggestion is welcome and as a starter point, here's Muriatic by Polynation.
As a #drummer I like to talk shop about #drums, but the active forums for that are heavily loaded with reactionary old white men, including the moderators. The amount of blatant bigotry is ridiculous, especially because they are all very skilled at using euphemisms so they don’t break the usual rules against politics and religion. We can be talking about the thickness of the plating on a certain era of metal shell, and somehow they manage to insert coded racism, every time.
Drummer Bernard "Pretty" Purdie.
He's been a big influence on my playing over the years. Purdie has played on hundreds of albums - many you have heard.
Found a neat closeup drum cam of Chika drumming during Hanabie's Denver show. I usually like watching the drummer in any live show, but Chika was really far to the back of the stage at NYC. (Was able to get a good view of Matsuri's guitar playing though!) It's cool to get a really close up view of Chika rocking out from this angle! :AquaYeah:
Hi! I'm Morgan, a #Software engineer living in western #EU. I work as a lead developer, with an increasing focus on the #HumanFactors involved in making software. I'm also pursuing a #Psychology degree with the aim of becoming a better #UX#UI designer. When I write code I use #Java and #Typescript but i'd like to go back to #Ada someday.
I also love #Music (yes, all of it)! Share your favorite song with me! 🎶 I'm learning how to play #Drums and might dip my toes into #MusicProduction in the future.
I've been interested in decentralized tech like #Matrix and #IPFS for quite some time. And I still hold a tiny bit of hope that #Blockchain might yield something good eventually (but I don't have a pyramid scheme to sell you I promise).
After falling in love with the game at a local arcade and wanting it for about a year, yet couldn't find at retail price, I finally bought the Hori "Taiko No Tatsujin" drum controller for the Switch!
I also grabbed "Taiko no Tatsujin Rhythm Festival" game since it was on sale for only $20 USD!
I have no experience playing percussion; all my experience is with wind and string instruments. I thought it would be fun to get a practice pad and try to learn some basics!
Need a good stomping bass drum sound for a new recording but no don't have any drums, so I'm walking around my house with headphone on and a recorder banging on things like bins and doors and it's lots of fun and sounds great. Though I'm concerned that any passers by might think I need rescuing. #recording#percussion#drums#musicproduction
I’ll post a #cymbal video later but I was thinking for #CymbalSaturday could every one of you post an example of one of your favorite cymbal sounds in a song or tune? It doesn’t even have to be a drum heavy track, just something where you heard a cymbal and said “oh hell yeah!” #drum#drums#drummer
