Looks like another successful #OpenStreets for #boston#dorchester with a whole bunch of both gov and charity causes pitching their ideas alongside music, games, food and plenty of nicks and nacks.
The real success is seeing RBCs (roving bands of children) just enjoying the #carFree street. More of this!
Anyone has experience working with an architect? I’m looking to start a renovation but I have no idea what’s the process. And a builder I talked to told me to get an architect to draw up a plan first. He also said he could refer one to me and it’ll likely cost $12k - $15k for the plan.
Is this a reasonable price? It’s a 1500sqft old colonial two story house.
Staghorn #sumac (Rhus typhina) along the #Neponset river in high summer last year
Sumac is a rough, colonizing plant that thrives in disturbed areas in #NewEngland. Although it has a bit of a rank smell, and poisonous relatives (like poison ivy), it has many edible parts (like its relatives cashews and pistachios). And it thrives! Gotta admire that. #Boston#Massachusetts#dorchester#photo#photograph#sky
The oldest house in #Boston, #Massachusetts, USA
The James Blake House was built in 1661, old in these parts, confirmed by dating of timbers. It is just off Massachusetts Ave in #Dorchester, conveniently between the JFK/UMass red line stop on the T and Dorchester Brewery. Cell phone #photo.
MA Senator Ed Markey celebrating the creation of the Boston Community Solar Cooperative (BCSC) becoming an actual cooperative in Dorchester.
BCSC is a ‘for-profit’ cooperative that aims to generate income for low-income residents (e.g., as a worker member). Their biggest challenge is identifying roofs for solar sites.
