Okay, I think I'll start out today's thread of #Climate news with a question for y'all.

Do you know what causes this pile of ice beneath this boiler exhaust at a ski area lodge?

Actually, my second post on this thread of climate news is also a question today. Sorry if that bothers you. Not really, but I'm trying to be polite.

So, if you've been following me than you know that I've been trying to make Senator Whitehouse more famous because he's a major, major climate hawk, but I need help on this one.

I'm too old to tell if they did a good job on this. I'm psyched though that they tried and put out this two minute video.

Perhaps I should have saved this climate news for tomorrow, but we never know what the morrow might bring.

Since I'm in a questioning mood today apparently, I'll pose this one as one too.

Did you all know that tomorrow's big game will be the first time our SuperBowl will be played in a stadium entirely powered by renewable energy?

I would love, to have Tags in Lemmy. I love them to find posts on the same topic ore news in Mastodon, and I would use them the same way here. For me it would also be a good solution of the “Problem” with dublicated ore unspecific Communities. So if i’m only interested in a subtopic, I can just follow the tag, and get only the content I’m interested in. (For example, if I only want posts about climate news, I can follow a community for climate news, but also the tag #climatenews (ore something) to get posts from for example Worldbews too.

Canadians, Australians, and Americans are some of the most in the world. All our news reporting is about how magical hurricanes and fires are. Nothing about or burning for the most part. revolves around incrementals like electric vehicles, banning straws, solar panels.

Never do we actually talk about taking away the privilege of intense energy use. We don't talk about building denser, smaller homes. We don't talk about NOT taking that vacation. We don't talk about NOT buying things. At most we sub in one form of consumption for another.

Like or , those who have are loathe to give it up. We are all entitled, right?

Why should we live on less?

We, the largest energy users in the world can't just talk about alternative energy. We need real energy reduction and yes, that means the "economy" will hurt, that means fewer vacations, that means smaller homes. (Don't @ me with some facts about small apartments, I'm talking about averages here).

We will never get anywhere until we accept using less. For starters, no homes in the greenbelt where we need cars to drive between McMansions.

like others i usually plead for to be given more urgency and prominence. The does this now, with live updates. And even my determinedly optimistic father now sends me climate worries. Paradoxically, it’s making me feel deeply miserable: i guess somehow everyone else’s denial was actually enabling me, too, to cling on to an illusion of normality. Now it’s all the , to quote Michael Mann, and surprsingly hard

Screenshot of this text: Summary The UK government’s new plan to cope with the climate crisis has been condemned as “very weak” by experts, who say not enough is being done to protect lives and livelihoods. South East Water has reported a pre-tax loss of nearly £75m, which it blamed in part on the cost of dealing with last year’s “extreme weather events” including the record-breaking heatwave. The water firm, which supplies 2.2 million customers, said the weather events cost it £17m. Five people have been killed and two children remain missing after flood waters tore through parts of south-eastern Pennsylvania over the week during the latest round of violent storms to hit the region. China has confirmed a record temperature of 52.2C (126F) in the north-west of the country on Sunday. Italian health officials intensified heat warnings as the mercury in Rome was forecast to near 40C (104F). California’s Death Valley, often among the hottest places on Earth, reached a near-record 52C on Sunday. Firefighters are battling wildfires in the Canary Islands and Greece.

The climate crisis is smashing economies, ruining the environment, crushing countries, destroying oxygen creating forests, but there is not a central report, a clearing house of the war on life.

Oil's war on life.

That website needs built Climate War Report or some such name.
