42!! Lucky number! NOT 84! (Even though it came out in '84, that's immaterial!)
The ONLY Macintoshes that ran at 512x384 were the 1990 Mac LC and IIsi with the 12" screen, and the Color Classic and perhaps other related later all-in-ones.
ALL MONOCHROME COMPACT MACS HAD 512x342 RESOLUTION SCREENS.
If I told you how much time I spent adjusting this so all the emulators + retroTerm fit right in borderless windows in the 800x600 box on the :commodore: monitor background you’d understand why I never get anything done 😅
This thing is actually my home server (Plex , Frigate, NAS etc but these MiniPCs have too much untapped power to just sit there doing nothing, so I hooked it up to the TV for some nerdy nostalgia in addition to a huge terminal.
This evening, I added support for the SGI image format embedded inside QuickTime containers to my QuickDraw viewer. Turns out SGI images have a 512 byte headers which QuickTime strips, as the data is redundant with what is stored by QuickTime. So before rendering, the full SGI file needs to be reconstructed.
The Mac SE/30 had a 256 Kb ROM, that was expandable to 2MB. And Now is wonder if someone, somewhere is trying to create a 2MB ROM, with a boot file-system system like the Mac Classic had… #retrocomputing#macse30#classicmac
Another playthrough of #SimAnt's Full Game to mark #MyrmecologyMonday, in which we give the red ants five minutes' grace to start the game—making things much more interesting.
CW: You should skip this series if you have a fear or phobia of ants or spiders.
Small moment of pride, I finally managed to write Swift code that decodes QuickDraw regions. The current code is super inefficient, but works.
I found a test image that uses non square regions instead of bitmaps, you can see the difference in rendering between my code and the Preview Application of Mac OS X.
Experimenting with streaming setups this week, mostly #Minecraft and a few #ClassicMac games like Lode Runner. Lag issues aren't really going away, although the bitrate tweaks I made a while back are helping. The other thing that's still an issue is finding a happy balance for stream audio. I've been using #Funkwhale to stream playlists of #CreativeCommons music in the background, but individual tracks sometimes drown out my voice. Compressor needed? 😕
I just cracked open #SimAnt and tried a full game. Took about an hour to beat with a final achievement level of "We're On A Mission From Elvis". Looking forward to streaming this one.
All right, I'm pretty proud of this one. Welcome to the first installment of SimAnt: The series, in which we stream the full game of #SimAnt and discover the endlessly fascinating world of ants.
CW: You should skip this series if you have a fear or phobia of ants or spiders.
Y'all might enjoy this: I've been working on a SimCity 2000 playthrough series on #PeerTube and had to quit a while back due to problems streaming with OBS, but lo and behold we are back.
Well, I just placed orders for boards and parts to build a new Lisa 2/5 around my existing Lisa CPU card, the only part of a Lisa I’ve ever owned.
I would never have thought this was possible if it weren’t for the work of @DosFox who recently built the first new Lisa since 1986! Thanks for the inspiration!
I’ll continue this thread as parts roll in. I may ask (beg) if folks have some parts in your bins! 😀
