You may think that QR codes are great for securing your login, or letting users read more online about a product marketed in a news paper ad. But there is a high risk you are creating barriers for people with disabilities, unless you use QR codes correctly.

@trinux The name/address of the terrorism suspect was actually given to police by Apple, not Proton. The terror suspect added their real-life Apple email as an optional recovery address in Proton Mail. Proton can't decrypt data, but in terror cases Swiss courts can obtain recovery email.

crowdfunded in October, I released it yesterday, so about 7 months (I had started preliminary development in May though). KS contributed to some marketing.

I did 1 post a day, with screenshots, and about 10-12 post with videos. Crossposted to X, mastodon and bluesky. Consideration: totally useless. Indeed for my future games I might post weekly, I have better things to do with my time 😊

Did several reddit posts. 50% of them were removed by <insert random reason>. The remaining one got a lot of impressions. Total 115k views between all of them. But wishlists? maybe 100? not sure, hard to tell, but not many.

A few paid ads in some comic networks. Unsure about results.

Promoted it to my own site, mailing list (20k contacts), Patreon, other forums like adventure game forums, etc (without spamming of course!).

Asked several friend devs to help me spread the word, sadly majority didn't do anything, but it's not something I can take for granted, so not an issue.

Recently started contacting youtubers to see if anyone wanted to play the game. A few did, waiting for more replies.

OK I think this is all 😂all of this, didn't get me to even 1000 WL on launch. I don't want to scare or vent or anything, just reporting the cold numbers in case could be useful to someone! #indiedev #gamedev

I'd appreciate if companies could do their thing and not go out of their way to cause harm
Ideally they'd try not to harm or even better, reduce harm done by others in their field as well. Though that might be too ambitious...
Plus, I wouldn't know how to go about that in a way that doesn't create even more poverty and inequality
I'd be surprised if any of the big ones cared enough to bother try formulate a good answer to that

@Rana Good thoughts/questions. Everything comes at a cost, and everyone has opinions about how something should be conducted.

That's ethics at it's core—competing conceptions of the good, constructed by our own morals, biases, and ethics.

"Perfect" doesn't exist, and it's impossible to please everyone, so it's a constant balance of tradeoffs. Everyone's gonna value something different. 💭

Reading a help page, and after a list of instructions it says: "Nice job". After another one, "Excellent!". I'm Really struggling to formulate the thought process that leads to congratulating users for something you don't know they actually did or even understood, as though everybody setting up campaigns is seven years old.

Wie vermarktest du deine Geschichten (und wie wichtig findest du das)?
Ich will gelesen werden. Ich hoffe, im Alter über die Bücher zumindest so viel Einkommen zu erzielen, dass ich zusammen mit der Rente über Bürgergeldniveau komme. Ohne Marketing wird das nichts, so viel ist klar.
Marketing sollte mir also wichtig sein. Allerdings bin ich in dem Punkt hundsmiserabel: einfaltslos und - oh, guck, ein Eichhörnchen!

🇬🇧 I haven't seen such a complete "advertisement" in a long time. One that would make me want to watch it, that I find visually appealing, whose message is clear and concise, and at the same time, it can shock a few times if we are the type of person the spot talks about. Highly recommended!
