I’ve been blogging recently, mostly writing about papers I published before because I realised I’ve not really blogged about them. But also funders seem to like blogs and websites as a way to disseminate research.

I’m not a fitness coach or therapist, but I can tell you nothing has improved my physical and mental health more than the simple habit of taking daily walks…
@dhester I tried hard to do a daily walk, even if it's only inside the apartment (during a bad winter's day). Agree, it does wonders for our mental and physical health.
The spotlight effect is the psychological phenomenon by which people tend to believe they are being noticed more than they really are. Being that one is constantly in the center of one’s own world, an accurate evaluation of how much one is noticed by others is uncommon…
@alexandra I have a big family—lots of siblings—so I don't think that was a factor. But I've always felt uncomfortable using social media and I'm sure it has contributed to the problem.
@dhester Ah, that would make sense too. I find I used social media sparingly, and didn't really embrace it (if that) till I discovered Mastodon, and the community here.
@ru I sometimes do too. I think to myself, I should write something for the blog just to kick things off again since it's been so long. Then I wonder what I'll write about. Then I just don't do it.

The job situation sounds awful. What a shitshow to put people (you) into a situation where they have to resolve a contradiction put up by HR/management/... over a scarce resource!

As the #indieweb continues to grow in popularity and mindshare, more and more folks new to the scene have shown apprehension, shyness, disillusionment and alienation with respect to being "part of the community". This seems to stem from a fundamental misunderstanding of what the IndieWeb is. It's not some fancy protocol or construct on a website, it's just you being you on a site you own. The following note is a response to one such lamentation
@shellsharks great piece! And totally agree. It's odd to see the apprehension when it's so easy to do and has been since the 90s.. well, it's easier today than EVER with stuff like Neocities etc.
Blog Update: I have successfully migrated email sending away from ButtonDown Email to a self-hosted Ghost instance. Nothing bad with ButtonDown - simply, Ghost has by far a better editing and publishing experience (and can be self-hosted, of course).

None of that would have been so easy, if it wasn for @andrasbacsai and his monstrous work on Coolify! If you have a spare server and want to turn it into a self-hosted #PaaS without #Kubernetes and all the jazz, Coolify is absolutely the best!
I love building small projects to enhance community projects and this spring the NHL playoffs and IIHF World Championships have been keeping me busy with building two web projects between the games.
