drmambobob, I’ve been blogging recently, mostly writing about papers I published before because I realised I’ve not really blogged about them. But also funders seem to like blogs and websites as a way to disseminate research.
In any case, here’s my website and blog: https://manabusakamoto.uk/

dtgeek, New post: Blog status update (June 2024): I've brought back my blogroll to my site. Also, my thoughts on why blogging still matters versus the state of social networks and Google (AI, algorithms, bigoted trolls etc.).
https://www.diversetechgeek.com/blog-status-update-june-2024/
krishnadraws, One week in, I have a few observations from my return to regular blogging:
I like having my own little place on the web to write on topics I'm passionate about. (old comics, retro-computing, Linux, macOS, etc.)
I appreciate the tranquility of having a website that is completely devoid of an algorithm, ads, pop-ups or other nonsense.
RL_Dane, Krishna, have you heard about the #GeminiProtocol / #ProjectGemini (no relation to LLM junk).
I've just started getting into it, and its giving me LOTS of fun 1990s www vibes.

RL_Dane, Definitely check out the Lagrange client (https://github.com/skyjake/lagrange), which is cross-platform, lightweight, and beautiful.
On the command line, Amfora (https://github.com/makew0rld/amfora) is very nice.
There's some more clients listed here: https://github.com/kr1sp1n/awesome-gemini
The markup format is dead simple, something in-between gopher and markdown. Very enjoyable to play with.
#HappyHacking! :D
P.S., there's also a .gpub format for publishing books that are just zipped up gemlogs!
birming, Back on Bear Blog - for life 🐻 #blogging
https://birming.com/bear-blog-life/
birming, @alexandra Very happy to hear, that’s exactly what I’m hoping for.
Totally agree on the renaissance going on. It’s the best of times, it’s the blog of times.
https://birming.com/blogging-back/
alexandra, @birming Fingers crossed it continues to grow.
dhester, ✏️ The Benefits Of Daily Walks
I’m not a fitness coach or therapist, but I can tell you nothing has improved my physical and mental health more than the simple habit of taking daily walks…
https://notes.darrenhester.com/post/the-benefits-of-daily-walks
alexandra, @dhester I tried hard to do a daily walk, even if it's only inside the apartment (during a bad winter's day). Agree, it does wonders for our mental and physical health.
flamed, 📝 New Post: The Miyoo Mini Plus
A quick review of the Miyoo Mini+
dhester, ✏️ The Spotlight Effect
The spotlight effect is the psychological phenomenon by which people tend to believe they are being noticed more than they really are. Being that one is constantly in the center of one’s own world, an accurate evaluation of how much one is noticed by others is uncommon…
dhester, @alexandra I have a big family—lots of siblings—so I don't think that was a factor. But I've always felt uncomfortable using social media and I'm sure it has contributed to the problem.
alexandra, @dhester Ah, that would make sense too. I find I used social media sparingly, and didn't really embrace it (if that) till I discovered Mastodon, and the community here.
ru, I miss #blogging so much.
One day, one fine day in the far future, I will have the energy, the motivation, and the confidence to blog again.
mike, @ru I sometimes do too. I think to myself, I should write something for the blog just to kick things off again since it's been so long. Then I wonder what I'll write about. Then I just don't do it.
ru, @mike Do we have have any unique experiences anymore?
That said, ditto. Sigh.
hamatti, "Random, scattered, diverse, subconscious, thoughts and feelings, swirling around, just waiting for the right moment to come along, and coalesce into a solution called creativity. And that eureka moment isn’t only a setting, a place, it’s also a time."
@disassociated wrote about how creative thoughts spark at various places at various times in this #IndieWeb Carnival entry.
Such a beautiful way to frame it.

dhester, ✏️ A Note To Myself
Bro, I can't help but notice your inner monologue has been extremely negative. Why are you being so hard on yourself? I've never heard you speak that harshly to your friends and family. Maybe you can...
scribblans, I did as blog thing. It's a list of the terms under which you read the blog. You have to read the blog to read the terms. That's how it works.

#Weeknotes #Blogging #Journaling #London #JobSearch #Pedantry #Writing
denis, Also, 2900 words — my longest #weeknotes yet! I think I am overexerting myself.
ctietze, @denis wow there's a lot going on!
The job situation sounds awful. What a shitshow to put people (you) into a situation where they have to resolve a contradiction put up by HR/management/... over a scarce resource!
Wish I were rich by now to pay for a project or two that would need to be made, but alas, no riches to be had :(
j, This is more of a rant than I intended, but I still stand by it.
joel, @j I watched the 4 episodes with Tennant back and had some hope it might go back to better days, sounds like it still a mess. RIP

shellsharks, 36 assorted things https://shellsharks.com/notes/2024/05/20/36-things
Inspired by @niclake (and yes, I did 36 to be just one more than 35 😄)
niclake, @shellsharks Love it!
niclake, @shellsharks
9: as a 37 year old, this hurts my soul
13: I'll GLADLY trade you; losing weight is the worst
18: If you give it 4 days, chugging water and having Tylenol at the ready, it can be done
22: facts
32: I wish I'd listened to the people telling me this when I was younger
shellsharks, Some (silly) stuff I posted over the weekend for #weblogpomo2024
A little snapshot of my desktop workspace / "Mission Control” https://shellsharks.com/notes/2024/05/18/mission-control-snapshot
A list of crimes committed by Bowser across the history of Mario games https://shellsharks.com/notes/2024/05/19/bowsers-crimes
shellsharks, @adamsdesk I just updated the note 😄. Though it doesn't seem like Bowser makes an appearance in either of those games. I'm sure i'm still missing some though…
adamsdesk, @shellsharks Fair point, I just meant a few were missing. 🙂
hyde, Like @joel, I didn't post the last few days.

hyde, @tuxedocomputers No i should have started where maybe ... But since , I think, it's not covered by warranty anymore I wasn't sure if it was worth the shot
tuxedocomputers, @hyde
Even without warranty, it is worth a shot. Maybe there is a solution.
shellsharks, As the #indieweb continues to grow in popularity and mindshare, more and more folks new to the scene have shown apprehension, shyness, disillusionment and alienation with respect to being "part of the community". This seems to stem from a fundamental misunderstanding of what the IndieWeb is. It's not some fancy protocol or construct on a website, it's just you being you on a site you own. The following note is a response to one such lamentation
jake4480, @shellsharks great piece! And totally agree. It's odd to see the apprehension when it's so easy to do and has been since the 90s.. well, it's easier today than EVER with stuff like Neocities etc.
preslavrachev, Blog Update: I have successfully migrated email sending away from ButtonDown Email to a self-hosted Ghost instance. Nothing bad with ButtonDown - simply, Ghost has by far a better editing and publishing experience (and can be self-hosted, of course).
Speaking of newsletters, one reason to migrate was because I want to explore email communication a bit further. So, if newsletters are your thing, be my guest and add your email here: https://preslav.me/subscribe/#via-email I won't spam!
preslavrachev, None of that would have been so easy, if it wasn for @andrasbacsai and his monstrous work on Coolify! If you have a spare server and want to turn it into a self-hosted #PaaS without #Kubernetes and all the jazz, Coolify is absolutely the best!
Thanks, @andrasbacsai, and hope you earn enough money to work on Coolify forever. It's just 👌
anze3db, @preslavrachev Awesome, I've signed up!
The confirmation email went to my spam folder though 😔
SocialJusticeHeals, Is there an open-source #blogging platform that integrates well with #ActivityPub ?
hamatti, Combining hockey and development? Yes please.
I love building small projects to enhance community projects and this spring the NHL playoffs and IIHF World Championships have been keeping me busy with building two web projects between the games.
jamescooke, @hamatti Obligatory ice hockey code project boost 👌🏻
