Hello. I am a single, middle aged man from midwestern United States. Pic is not me.

Inspired by Ukraine war, Taiwan launches drone blitz to counter China (www.reuters.com)

“After Ukraine deployed drones to successfully offset Russia’s advantages on the battlefield, Taiwan’s leaders took note. But an internal report presented to President Tsai Ing-wen contained an alarming finding: In drones, Taiwan lagged far behind its much more powerful adversary - China. Now, the island has enlisted...

Interesting article. Seems the world's militaries are switching from human to drone armies.

Beat my meat. That is a phrase I've not heard in a long time.

Sadly, the older I get the more I see just how badly people suck...including me. I really need to lower my standards.

This is the first Doom, right?

Any links to the community?

I have a Mr. Do! arcade machine which feels pretty timeless to me.

Anyone else gradually stopped drinking alcohol?

I stopped drinking alcohol some years ago. Before that I hardly consumed any alcohol at all for many years, but in my college years and maybe some years after that, I drank socially like “everybody else”. But I gradually kind of got tired of dealing with the bad feelings (physical and emotional), so I drank less and less....

I intentionally stopped drinking about 10 years ago. I found that post divorce me was drinking more that I was comfortable with. So I stopped.

I do not think I was an alcoholic, but there seem to be many definitions for that word. I may start drinking again someday. But we will see, no plans now to start again.

I am not at all opposed to people drinking. I will even go with you and be the designated driver. But many bars really do not even try to accommodate non drinkers. I have had some fucking awful spicy virgin marys.

I do think that THC gummies are healthier than drinking. But I have really slowed my use of them because I think they were affecting my already bad memory.

Sounds like you have the key for that little lock. If so clean it out and use it.

If you cannot do that then drill out that little lock.

I would probably just ask my local hardware store what garage door guy they recommend.

I know this art is "on the street", but I really hesitate to call it street art.

I'll allow it.

I need at least a week in the Louvre next time I'm there.

PROTIP: To stop the G! login popup window from annoying the piss out of you when using Firefox, simply add what's below to your uBlock filters:

||accounts.google.com/gsi/iframe

Worked great for me.

Full instructions:

  1. Click the Ublock Origin icon (a shield like thing with a number in it in the upper right of desktop Firefox)
  2. Click the gears to go to settings (almost at the bottom and on the right of the drop down)
  3. Click the My Filters tab and paste what's above into the next open row (for me this was my first filter).
  4. Stop seeing the silly box to log into sites using G!.

In my area there are these so called traffic cameras all over the place. Maybe those.

Glamping - is it in any way better than pricey hotel rooms? (lemmy.world)

We had a couple of friends who took their families “glamping” a few weeks ago. They extolled the virtues of lower costs and the fabulous service, and even invited parts of our family to come stay with them for a couple of nights. This was not the first time we were invited to “glamping”, and it still left a bitter...

I do a lot of car camping in my truck at state and national parks. That is pretty frugal, especially if you don't get electricity. A non-electric tent site is usually under $25/night.

I do not get the impression that glamping is frugal at all.

As far as comfort goes, you can use an air mattress in a tent which rivals a regular mattress. All my fat ass needs is a 3" air mattress between me and the ground. Less than that and my back might hurt.

Most campgrounds have a washhouse with running water, sinks, flush toilets. You can go more rustic without that. I've done it but cannot say that shitting in a hole is much fun.
