This one took weeks to write. It's about me finding a way to significantly reduce the power consumption of a Raspberry Pi Pico W working as a weather station, collecting environmental data.

I am also writing about powering the Pico using solar panels, and this time it's a success, my weather station can now run indefinitely, powered by the sun!

@stfn I know nothing about RPiP but I expect it has some power management features that allow for significant reduction of power consumption. I also expect that Python's time.sleep() does not support those features. Third issue I can see here is that the program can sleep much longer b/c the time constants of environmental conditions is way longer.

@stfn Re: granularity

The thing is that 1m granularity makes little sense for environmental parameters as they don't change that fast if you measure them properly (Nyquit-Shannon sampling theorem).

I played with BME280 and DS18B20 and they both are very sensitive and need something (enclosure, a heat sink) to increase their inertia. Otherwise they are able to detect very minor changes. Eg. I had to flip the circuit upside down b/c an ESP8226 running for 20 seconds heated the sensor by ~0.5°C.

Krew mnie zalała na miejscu, ale było późno, a ja byłam już zmęczona, więc tylko się do kasjerki uśmiechnęłam i powiedziałam coś w stylu "ja pierdolę, nie śpimy", na co ona odpowiedziała "no kurwa, książę lidla", przewróciłyśmy synchronicznie oczami i każda z nas poszła w swoją stronę, ale ja jebię, czy możemy takich typów wysyłać do łagrów, bardzo proszę?

@thebluemarble @adamczyk #hottejk Nie, to nie kapitalizm*, to prastara forma folwarczna przeniesiona przez epoki i przyjmowana dziś niezależnie od pochodzenia. Mechanizm tego przeniesienia trochę objaśnia A.Leder w „Prześnionej rewolucji”.

So recently I bought a power cord from a local flea market, because I wanted one asap and did not have the time to go to the city. The seller was very nice and informed me to only use it with low power appliances. I was ok with it, I needed it only for a bedside lamp so I took it. Now I bought a proper extension so I decided to cut open this one. And yeah... The ground was not even connected, and the cables were much thinner than one square mm. A beautiful fire hazard. Straight to the bin.

Same as before, with a different angle to better show the ground cable not being attached to anything

@stfn the bars look solid. so rewiring them with a proper 2.5 mm² cable could be the first step. then, with a bit of fiddling it may be possible to make it „smart”.

@stfn Are you sure it's CB? I know there is a ham band next to it and I'd expect some weird stuff there, but CB has power limits and is for talking.
