Today is the 31st day of my #coconutwater fast. 😅️🫣️ I intend to continue for up to 60 days and hope to finally make some #progress with my #hernia. 😇️

stahlbrandt,

@amadeus That sounds like a real feat! I hope you celebrate these days with, er maybe more water? Way to go!

stahlbrandt,

@amadeus I can imagine it is indeed changing your thinking, being a emotional journey. My fasting is that of days, not weeks or months. My dearest is fasting for up to 10 days at a time. I have understood that there are several interesting things happening after maybe a week, where potentially stem cells are forming anew. A younger version of me had operation for hernia. Something that seems to go in the family. I would not associate any healing of hernia with fasting, but then, I am ignorant on the subject.

stahlbrandt,

@amadeus Yes, there are definitely many benefits of fasting. Ouch on the tear and ok on the timeline there, mine was 21 years ago and is still holding. Hoping that your thinking is spot on and that you are getting better. If not, probably good to get some (more?) professional advice since complications can be truly problematic and risky, or so I’ve heard.

2/2 Which provider can you recommend to someone who's looking for ease of use, ergonomics, good documentation, good support and low cost?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
PD: Not sure if this is relevant, but I am in South East Asia, so decent performance there would be nice too.

stahlbrandt,

@amadeus I am using IONOS for a lot of stuff professionally, both and . They have good prices and lots on offer. Being in SE Asia though things may get complicated depending on your performance requirements.

@cisene no negative effect on the sewage pipes? But maybe the tar content is so low that it does not clog the pipes. I would imagine though that tar at lower temperatures has an ingenious capability to plug pipes.

A new study from NASA Astrobiology Program-funded scientists points to rapid collapse of Earth’s species 252 million years ago. https://astrobiology.nasa.gov/news/timeline-of-a-mass-extinction/

    stahlbrandt,

@doomscroller A slight “reset pulse” with a width of 20k years cleared out most life back then it seems. Interesting with the massive, long term CO2 injection into the atmosphere as well. Thanks for sharing! #climatecollapse

Has anyone got running on their distribution? The application opens for me, but none of the buttons are clickable. I tried to make sense of the Getting Started section in the wiki and used the commands outlined alongside flatpak run to no avail.

Would be nice not to have to stare at ('s) smeary scaled UI and instead use a nice app like Goldwarden. 🤓️

    stahlbrandt,

@amadeus starting the application from the console might reveal what is wrong. Maybe possibility to pass it debug param (debug on) to get extra output. Might be access right issues, or not all libraries loaded, for example (just guessing here).

Aawh, #newsletter (s) are tough for me as there's always a mistake (or several) to be discovered after submission. 🫣🤪 I like #blogpost (s) better. Not that I wouldn't make mistakes there too, but at least there is the possibility to fix things after publishing. 😅

    stahlbrandt,

@amadeus thanks for an interesting, personal touch long-read newsletter, bilingual even (I enjoyed the german version of it). Lot of things to take care of once one decides to move to a new country and continent even, with very different climate to where one has grown up. Electronics and humidity never were friends, for example. Having experienced flooding of houses in southern Germany 1990 and 1995, I can relate to that aspect as well.

Does anyone know how to make stop removing double whitespace?

    stahlbrandt,

@amadeus Not my tool so I cannot say, but… Are you maybe using spaces where a 2space horizontal tab would do?

    stahlbrandt,

@amadeus Yes, a bit scary when code (text input) relies syntactically on whitespaces to function (or do some formatting magic). I haven’t used Grav as far as I recall, but my regular IDE for many things, has a plugin for it even. Though, I am sure you’ll find a FOSS IDE or editor that doesn’t wack whitespace when using eg MD.

It bums me out that there aren't more Russia-focused accounts on Mastodon. Searching around, I can see several prominent scholars and journalists who created accounts in early 2023 but soon stopped posting. That disappointment aside, there's a small but great community here of people interested in reading about the subject. Glad to be here.

    stahlbrandt,

@kevinrothrock It’s very good to have you here, thanks for all you are doing.

#studio #rebuild almost done now. 🥳 Not sure if I like the #acoustic #panel (s) as they take away quite a bit of light. Also, electrical problems still unresolved. But the electricians are coming today, so I have high hopes. 😇

Close up of studio desk with PC, speakers, 6 Roland Boutique synthesizers, Monitor controller, microphone arm, display and my Klein + Hummel speakers.
Tools (screwdriver, scissors, cable ties, etc.) on my second rack.

    stahlbrandt,

@amadeus That is looking very neat, congratulations! Yes, those serious absorbers are towering quite tall and the room does seem to get the main light from the direction you took the pictures. Accoustics can be messy.

    stahlbrandt,

@amadeus On the ceiling: Ok so one hanging trap as well. Maybe the room acoustics are such that you want to absorb the higher frequencies and their reflections in the ceiling and a narrower absorber with less width, stealing less height, but in a pair could work. I assume you have or want to measure the room acoustics and for the type of jobs you do. Let me/your followers know how you proceed. Very cool! 👍🏻

    stahlbrandt,

@amadeus Sounds like a smart move. As so often, experience will let us cut corners without risking certain, important aspects of quality. Six years ago I had plans for a perfect space close to the house where we live, but the cost for the “raw building” turned out to be higher than what I had anticipated as max, so I scrapped that and instead use a temporary, imperfect setup inside the living house. Just keyboard recording and listening as is, no advanced mic/analog input.

    stahlbrandt,

@amadeus Thanks for the extra details. Quite a switch from MacOS to Linux I’d say, but definitely interesting and the tools are probably maturing.

Lately, I often see people in my home feed that I do not follow. I have to follow and unfollow them to remove them from my feed. 🤔 #mastodon

    stahlbrandt,

@amadeus I had it happening to me yesterday: A toot from an account (from another server) I do not follow showed up in my stream. None of its hashtags followed. Noticed a person I do follow had replied to a post on the thread further below the toot. For now I assume the following: A person I follow retoots/boosts a post, then remove the boost. The post stays published/cached and is seen by me, confusing me. #mastodon #cache #refresh #client #mastodon_client #tooot
