Since all the search engines have gone to shit, I'll resort to the old-fashioned way of finding information: Asking people.

So, what's the easiest, most foolproof way to do encrypted offsite #backups on #Linux?

I have a few TB at Hetzner, and a few personal laptops that need automated backups.

The whole thing needs to be fairly foolproof to run (because at least one kid is going abroad for a few months with their laptop), and foolproof to set up up (because it's me setting it up)

Ich gehe morgen wählen.

Mit keiner der Parteien bin ich vollständig zufrieden. Muss ich auch nicht sein.

Ich werde die Partei wählen, von der ich annehme, dass sie am ehesten in die richtige Richtung arbeitet, und am seltensten grundsätzlich falsche Entscheidungen trifft.

So ist Demokratie. Wer sich jedem Kompromiss verweigert, spielt am Ende nur den Faschos in die Hände.

Geht wählen.

Hab gerade mal am Wahlkampfstand der örtlichen CSU vorbei geschaut und gefragt, wie denn ihr Radverkehrskonzept für unsere Stadt aussieht.

„Wir müssen ein Gleichgewicht finden zwischen Radverkehr und Individualverkehr.“

„Also, auf meinem Rad sitzt immer nur einer drauf. Das ist auch Individualverkehr.“

Hab dann erklärt, dass ich als Vater von vier Kindern möchte, dass meine Kinder eigenständig mobil sein können. Und dass ich mir immer Sorgen mache, ob sie heil nach Hause kommen. Weil die Radwege so schlecht sind (mit konkreten Stellen).

@BlackAzizAnansi Some of my very much non-technical relatives have been using Linux without issue for years.

Installing it isn’t terribly hard either, but it’s a bit more of a hurdle. You could go easy on yourself and just either buy a laptop with Linux preinstalled (as others have suggested); or get someone to install it for you.

Recently a relative needed a new laptop. I helped them pick it; had it shipped to my address; installed and configured Linux; and sent it off to them. Worked great!

Kayak training today.

The river had a pretty high water level, flooding most of the interesting features. So training was a pretty chill affair.

But I got to see either beavers or nutria up close! Not sure why they’re so visible right now, that’s not usually the case.

One animal sat there for at least two minutes, munching on a stick, ignoring us 🤩
