sgibson5150,

I get the sense that a lot of commenters here never had an openmailbox dot org experience.

sgibson5150,

Eric’s wife became co-chair of the RNC in March. It’s MAGA all the way down.

sgibson5150,

I was curious about this. According to Wikipedia, the Allies had stockpiles of chemical weapons but war leaders were against using them first (except Churchill, apparently) out of fear of the civilian reaction should it become known that the Allies used them first. The Allied side had them in theater, however, and there was an incident in Bari, Italy where an accidental release of mustard gas occurred after an Axis attack, leading to a number of deaths from exposure to the gas. The UK government apparently didn’t admit this until the mid-1980s.

sgibson5150,

It’s so bad. 🙈

Wild Blue Yonder is the only watchable RTD2 episode so far IMO. Haven’t seen Boom. May not bother.

sgibson5150,

I was already sick of all the freaking Taylor Swift ads but Roku announcing that video ads are coming to the home screen was the last straw for me. Finally set up a Pi-hole and Roku ads are gone. I know it’s an ongoing war and this is just one battle, but damn it’s nice right now. I even became a supporter on Patreon. ❤️

I still run uBlock Origin on all my browsers, though.

sgibson5150,

My dodgy friend, I have appealed to my wife not once or twice but three times that we should drop all our subs and return to those placid waters that I sailed in my younger days. She has yet to relent in her view that we should stay on the right side of the law. I look for any opportunity to press my advantage. Do you have a suggestion as to the perfect argument that will sway her?

sgibson5150,

Solid suggestions! I’ll keep at it.

sgibson5150,

Interesting! I didn’t know this was a thing.

sgibson5150,

LMAO are you trying to get me divorced

sgibson5150,

I’ve had this happen to me. I suspect it’s one sad MRA type with a pile of accounts bringing the downvotes. He can sense when I post anything remotely respectful of women because his pee pee hurts. 😆

I set this up today on my work laptop with (internal) RTX3060. According to the status indicators on the Adjust Video Image Settings page in the Nvidia control panel, super resolution is working in Chrome v124.x and v125.x but not at all in Firefox v126.0. My eyes tell me the same thing. I was able to play a 480p YT stream in Chrome and it looked surprisingly good on my external 1440p monitor. In FF it looks like ass. I may set up a secondary profile in FF just to make sure I haven’t changed some config setting over the years that would prevent it from working right in FF. Will update if I find anything interesting.

Edit: Just tried this again with YouTube in FF v126.0 with a clean profile. It does work, but only when the video is full screen (which makes sense I guess, but the behavior is different from Chrome) and I had to manually set the quality level in the Nvidia control panel. In Chrome the auto setting used level 4 (the highest level), but in FF the auto setting only used level 1.

sgibson5150,

From my testing today I found that this actually works pretty well (though not in FF haha). See my top level comment this thread.

sgibson5150,

Sorry. Should have mentioned. OS is Windows 11 Pro 23H2 22631.3593. Also, video driver is Nvidia Game Ready Driver 552.44.

On the new clean profile I created in v126.0, I didn’t have a gfx.webrender.enabled and gfx.webrender.all was set to false. Changing gfx.webrender.all to true didn’t really change the behavior. Nvidia control panel only shows super resolution active when full screen. Watching the same test video as yesterday at the same requested resolution. I did notice that if I set the Quality back to auto, with gfx.webrender.all = true, it picked 2 today instead of 1. 🤷‍♂️

sgibson5150,

We don’t keep bread in the house anymore but occasionally I want cinnamon toast. Nuke a little butter, mix in sugar & cinnamon, enjoy on saltines. It’s a little messy because the sugar and butter won’t completely emulsify but it scratches that itch when I’m baked.

sgibson5150,

Holy cow. Thank you! Didn’t know that was there. ❤️

sgibson5150,

I hear you, though I think this is less about education and more about getting folks to fork over $9.99 a month. Like so many others, I’ve a long frustrating relationship with Microsoft. They’re literally the largest company in world atm and they just keep laying off people. I don’t hate them quite as much as EA or Comcast, but it’s getting pretty close.

sgibson5150,

I feel this. Depression can be like a comfy blanket.

18+ TIL that Elizabeth Montgomery voiced one of Anne Rice's erotic Sleeping Beauty books (en.m.wikipedia.org)

In 1994, the abridged audio versions of the first three books were published in cassette form. The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty was read by actress Amy Brenneman. Beauty’s Punishment was read by Elizabeth Montgomery (known for her role in the ABC situation comedy Bewitched) as Beauty with Michael Diamond as Tristan, and...

sgibson5150,

They’re something. I actually learned about the book series itself in the nineties from my surprisingly sexually open ex-mother-in-law. 😆

sgibson5150, (edited )

My recollection is that the books use a fairy tale setting with the addition of a lot (and I mean a lot) of explicit sex. I don’t remember any vampires, but it’s been years.

As for the quality, “good” is subjective. I would say they are…effective in what they aim to accomplish insomuch as they are premium wanking material. 👍

sgibson5150,

You absolutely have a point. I guess she felt one lost her money and the other made her money. 😄

Incidentally, she published the Sleeping Beauty books under a pseudonym. Not sure when it became widely known that she was in fact the author.

sgibson5150, (edited )

I wonder if they ever did the Anne Rice Sleeping Beauty series as audiobooks, because that would probably get you where you want to go. 😆

Edit: They did, because of course they did. From Wikipedia:

In 1994, the abridged audio versions of the first three books were published in cassette form. The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty was read by actress Amy Brenneman. Beauty’s Punishment was read by Elizabeth Montgomery (known for her role in the ABC situation comedy Bewitched) as Beauty with Michael Diamond as Tristan, and Beauty’s Release was read by Montgomery with actor Christian Keiber reading as Laurent.[2] A compact disc version of the audiobooks was read by Genviere Bevier and Winthrop Eliot.[3]

sgibson5150,

Oh dear. Thanks for the research. Also thanks to @downpunxx for raising the issue. I wasn’t aware of this.

I stopped enjoying the “change my mind” meme when I realized what a piece of shit Crowder is. I’ll put this one in the same bucket.
