Can anyone decently explain to me why people are so fixated on assigning a gender to someone?

Why is that important?

You wanna address them? "Hey [whatever the person told you they want to be called]"

You weren't told how to address them? "Excuse me: I'm Andreas, What's your name?"

They don't tell you? Have you considered that they probably don't want to talk to you?

@heiglandreas names can easily communicate gender for usage of pronouns but it’s never rude to ask someone “what pronouns do you use?”

@heiglandreas absolutely agree.

@heiglandreas you know, you’re right.

Sydney is both, so is Ryan in America.

Thank you to everyone that made @phpday a truly amazing experience for me. The organizers, the sponsors, the Attendees and speakers and mostly all the old and new friends I was able to meet. And the feeling that this was growing a community!

Thank you all!

And also thank you to the pope for making todays tourist excursion a truly interesting visit 😂

The main piazza in verona. The arena to the left with a queue of people waiti g to pass the security scanner to get in. In the background some mobile tv stations prepared for broadcasting a speech of the pope.

PHP needs a code of conduct for the project itself. Is there anyone willing to push for an RFC to add one with me?

For those who made my keynote at @phpday, thank you. I worked hard and shared my heart and your warm reception meant the world.

Hope to see you all next year! #phpday #php

@rowdy @heiglandreas unfortunately without any code of conduct I can’t submit.

sarah,

@rowdy @heiglandreas I noticed that as well, which makes me more comfortable, but I would love to have a formally written one.

Being trans has you looking for things like this, unfortunately.

TIL backticks (`) in a git commit message cause shell to run the command. That was...interesting.

When designing entities I tend to return value objects, rather than scalar values, from my entities' get* methods.

What about you?

sarah,
@sarah@phpc.social avatar

@fuzulus I make properties private to properly return what I expect, but I agree, getters are clutter in many cases.
