Is there some unwritten compact amongst home maintenance companies (handyman, plumbers, electricians, etc.) to not provide itemized estimates, but just a top line number?

I ask for 3 things, I want them estimated separately, so I can pick and choose. I say this over and over. Why is it so hard?

@Crell many of them charge a higher fee for the first, say, 45 minutes and then lower amounts for subsequent time periods. It accounts for their travel time to your site. So they literally can’t estimate them separately.

Asked my wife this morning if she had told my sons playdate that I’m trans.

@kelleycs @ieatkillerbees it’s definitively unconstitutional. There is no “case or controversy” here. The case should be dismissed for lack of standing. This is the Supreme Court equivalent to an advisory opinion.

Mine and my sons autism were triggered by an extremely loud room. Enjoyed taking him to lunch at a quieter place instead. Sometimes having sensory issues isn’t all bad; it encouraged me to spend time with him in a way I wouldn’t have otherwise.

@emilygorcenski @Crell I spent time looking into building a consulting practice around examining these software failures. There’s a real need for an NTSB-like approach when software or projects fail to understand why and prevent future similar failures. Unfortunately I’m not sure the majority of software engineers agree with me.
