Any neo-pronouns or he/him if you must.
Not new, I've just had bad luck with main instance picking.
Boosts are seldom a reflection of what I think of the person posting (because I don't check unless I see red flags), but usually a reflection of what I think of the post itself.
I block random people who tag me out of nowhere (but replies are usually fine).

@raphaelmorgan@disabled.social avatar

So I'm gonna continue working on this either way because I'll use it, but is there any interest in a VFX editor where you edit a single frame of a video and then it uses a no-AI style transfer (https://github.com/jamriska/ebsynth) to change the nearby frames in the same way, automatically editing frame by frame until you see one you want to edit more by hand? And then when you're done it puts the video back together with the new frames and original audio.

raphaelmorgan,
@raphaelmorgan@disabled.social avatar

So far the flaw I've come across in this workflow is that when I edit one frame with something transparent, e.g. changing the color of my shirt with a subtract modifier so it still has photorealistic shadows, features that are supposed to be seen through it are still visible. I plan to fix this by creating transparent overlays instead of edited images, and only actually combining them with the original frame as the second to last step (just before reassembling the video). Opaque will still work.

@raphaelmorgan@disabled.social avatar

It may also be too tedious because the style transfer usually has some flaws that have to be touched up by hand after the first one or two. I still think it'll save some time, especially if I turn this "3-4 commands and a photo editor" approach into a cohesive GUI app where I can do all of the steps, most with the click of a button. Either way, it's good enough for me until I can afford/access something better (the type of editing I want is probably possible in Blender but idek where to start)

LB thinking about how I almost failed my classes in the fall because I got a letter from my ex and just lost the ability to function for a couple weeks... A letter. It wasn't even a threatening letter, it was an apology letter, and it wasn't even sent to my current address. But it was a big enough trigger to make me completely unable to participate in capitalism for a bit

People can tell themselves whatever lie they want about not voting for Biden. It still amounts to a lack of maturity in thinking opting out sends a message, of empathy for those who will suffer under Trump, and of logic for the stakes in 2024.

Read about Project 2025 and decide if you want to vote to unleash that on the nation and world. Because not voting is still a vote--a vote that says the world can burn unless you get everything you want. Decide which side you're on. #VoteBlue

raphaelmorgan,
@raphaelmorgan@disabled.social avatar

@augieray @olimould perhaps the one who isn't demanding minorities save them. The biggest difference between now and Trump's America is that now the fascism will also be affecting you, personally. The rest of us are already living under fascism, and some of us are gonna vote for Biden in order to have slightly less fascism but some people are tired of fighting and know you're not going to do anything to improve Biden's America for them.

I'm not gonna jump in on that thread about 'all men' but I am gonna say this:

While it's true that not all men do X, it is absolutely more true that patriarchy socializes ALL MEN to accept or be blind to certain truths about their position, importance, and relevance in the world.

Almost everything all men think of as 'natural' about their status in the world is not, in fact, true.
It was crafted through oppression, suppression, and violence.

It is also true that it takes an enormous amount of deliberate de-conditioning to throw off patriarchal thinking and praxis.

Those for whom 'not all men' truly apply (which is a small enough number to be sad and pitiful) know this to be true.

And so do the rest of us.

raphaelmorgan,
@raphaelmorgan@disabled.social avatar

@JimmyB honestly I'd say that's the case for all privileged groups. White people, straight people, able bodied people etc too.
Then in the case of (cis) men, they're also told that their role is as the violent party and that that's a good thing. That being violent is their right, that people of other genders are for conquering.
I'm glad you're willing to inspect and hopefully reject those lessons, and hope you're talking to other men in your life about it.

raphaelmorgan,
@raphaelmorgan@disabled.social avatar

@avoca @DeliaChristina the women who raised you may not have given you those messages, but a patriarchal society (because I guarantee you've interacted with other people) has at least TRIED to get you to internalize those messages. And considering how eager you are to talk over women about the patriarchy, I'd say it succeeded.

I do like that the fat guy in Dungeon Meshi is the most sexualized character (and not in a fetishy way). We frequently get to see Senshi, who looks like me if I'd had consistent access to T since I started, portrayed like your average female superhero and I am here for it

Libraries will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no libraries. - Anne Herbert

raphaelmorgan,
@raphaelmorgan@disabled.social avatar

@frog_reborn @lunastation it's fair to say that you would trade books for better material conditions. It's not fair to say that if someone says libraries help get people through hard times, they must have never had them. I'm also currently under the poverty line and would probably trade libraries for the ability to pay for both food and rent, but I'm not going to diminish the experiences of others over it

raphaelmorgan,
@raphaelmorgan@disabled.social avatar

@frog_reborn @lunastation I figured you only were talking about the poor part. Do you know from experience what it's like to live with money in a world without libraries? If so, I'll gladly take your word for it
But sometimes poor people care about libraries and I will die on the hill that my experiences happened

raphaelmorgan,
@raphaelmorgan@disabled.social avatar

@frog_reborn @lunastation we don't need to keep arguing. My point was essentially that's fair, I only mentioned you in the first place because you said the person quoted must have never been poor. If you don't stand by that statement and are willing to accept that poor people's experiences are diverse, then we're in agreement. I think it's totally fine that the quote doesn't fit your experiences, and I'm sorry if I seemed to be demanding that it does. That wasn't my intention
