"A review of CalMatters video from inside the encampment documented at least 25 instances in which those officers appeared to aim their weapons at the eye level of protesters or fired them into crowds that didn’t appear to present an immediate threat to life or serious injury… Law enforcement officers across the state are trained that these types of munitions 'shall not be aimed at the head, neck or any other vital organs…'" https://calmatters.org/justice/2024/05/ucla-protest-palestine-police/

Day 3 of the Gaza Solidarity Encampment at

The encampment keeps growing.

More tents now, more booths (food, medical supplies, literature) and more people.

No cops.

No "counter-protesters" aka pro-genocide fascists.

Just a super chill and revolutionary vibe.

Booth with a large yellow sign that reads, "UCR faculty for justice in Palestine"
Colorful chalk art with a rainbow and text that reads, "no pride in genocide"
Colorful chalk art with a pink and yellow flower and text that reads, "free Gaza"

My work colleague who has never discussed politics with me came up to me this morning and asked whether I had seen what was happening in US universities in terms of protests about the war in .

She then got out her phone and showed me a clip that had left her distraught of a female Economics professor being grabbed by police and having head smashed into the pavement.

This colleague visited Auschwitz last month. She’s not antisemitic. Watching it had brought back memories of George Floyd.

@Uraael Where did the original poster say they're surprised? Discussing current events isn't the same as expressing surprise about those events.

This week:

  1. College students protesting the genocide in Gaza, setting up encampments and occupying buildings on their campuses. High among their demands: divestment from Israel.

  2. Cops immediately showing up, even within minutes, to arrest students and faculty.

  3. Cops tasing people, shooting tear gas and other projectiles at those who are peacefully protesting.

  4. College admins suspending students and evicting them from campus housing.

  5. The movement rapidly spreading.

Y'all, please pay more attention to what's happening on college campuses.

Heavily armed cops are violently attacking students and faculty immediately after they set up peaceful encampments.

Administrators are evicting and expelling students all because they exercised their First Amendment right to protest.

This is the sort of political repression so-called liberals worry about happening under Trump, but Trump isn't in office now.

Pay attention.

Trump's campaign knows:

A vote for Robert Kennedy is a vote for Trump.
A vote for Cornel West is a vote for Trump.
A vote for Jill Stein is a vote for Trump.
Not voting is a vote for Trump.

A vote for Biden is a vote for democracy.

@Beedge We've been trying to reason with, persuade and enlighten President Ice Cream for six months, and yet he keeps supplying Israel with the weapons to commit genocide. How is a vote for for him not also a vote for genocide?

pixplz,
@pixplz@mastodon.social avatar

@textualdeviance @jjLitke @Beedge My queer spouse and I organized a protest that drew 1,000 people to one of ICE's headquarters. But please, go on with your nonsensical rant about how we're silent.

pixplz,
@pixplz@mastodon.social avatar

@textualdeviance @jjLitke @Beedge How am I allowing Trump to win? By holding the current president accountable for his words and actions? If that somehow isn't permitted, then democracy is already dead.

pixplz,
@pixplz@mastodon.social avatar

@Beedge @textualdeviance @jjLitke Show me where I said that I won't be voting for King Daddy Biden.

pixplz,
@pixplz@mastodon.social avatar

@enobacon @textualdeviance @jjLitke @Beedge Look, I am not telling you or anyone else who to vote for. Who YOU vote for is YOUR business. Who I vote for is MY business, and I never said I wasn't planning to vote for the incumbent. I do insist, however, on holding the current president accountable for his words and actions. If that somehow isn't permitted, then as I said, democracy is already dead.

That's nice, Guardian, but as a Californian, here is what you really do during an earthquake:

  1. Look up from your phone and go "huh?"

  2. Wonder if that was an earthquake.

  3. Ask someone nearby if it was an earthquake. They will say it was a garbage truck.

  4. Confirm it was an earthquake by going on the socials.

  5. Spend the next hour on social media, forgetting why you were there in the first place.

  6. DoorDash some food, because you've been through a lot today.

I apologize, but air filtration will not fix the pandemic. You will have to wear a respirator anytime you are close to people, or you will get covid. There is a lot we could do to make life easier once we accept this simple fact and get on with it.

pixplz,
@pixplz@mastodon.social avatar

@zephyrleifrenner Yes. As I've often said, clean air is the new vax-and-relax

@wonka @VeroniqueB99 Look, the current president of the U.S. is shamelessly arming a country that's committing untold war crimes and human rights abuses. It's illegal and immoral. If it were Trump doing this, do you think you'd be giving him a pass? Unlikely. Not sure what you want from me. I answered your question, so run along now.

@wonka Wet stone. Nice. In your experience, what would you say is the most rewarding aspect of being a vile, abusive piece of shit?
