Mlast post (5/5) about Adorno's Constellations.

Of course, although I really like the concept, that presentation wouldn't be complete without a bit of criticism. So let me expose here 4 shortcomings of Constellations and finally explain why I think this concept remains central in contemporary philosophy.

Slowly getting my way around #Logseq coming from Obsidian. It's definitely better for my workflow as I have a lot less copy/paste to manage.

Today, the post #3 of Adorno's Constellation. I try to get a good definition and the consequences of this definition. Enjoy!

Love Stephen Fry, and love Nick Cave. This letter about creation and AI is brilliant.

What do you think?

We talk about Dutch bike infrastructure but not enough about Belgian bike infrastructure.

They have roads in Brussels where bikes have priority and cars aren’t allowed to pass.

A road where bikes have priority painted yellow.

pauld,

@davidho Where is this? I bike a lot in Brussels, and I've never seen anything like it!

pauld,

@cbontenbal @davidesalerno68 @economics @smithkm @philosophy I think you can look for these arguments for a long time! Many philosophers are still looking for them. Transcendence isn't a necessity.

pauld,

@SusanHR @cbontenbal @davidesalerno68 @economics @smithkm @philosophy Ilyenkov has an interesting view on this : Thought is the highest mode of matter. After all, we think, and our thoughts come from matter.

pauld,
pauld,

@lack @jordan_kendrick @davidesalerno68 @cbontenbal @economics @smithkm @philosophy I'm sorry but where does this opiniated discussion lead? Nature isn't necessary nor eternal as it is contingent, and I don't see why, if it were necessary and eternal, it would imply that it is absolute.

pauld,

@lack @jordan_kendrick @davidesalerno68 @cbontenbal @economics @smithkm @philosophy The absolute in philosophy is what exists by itself, without any condition or dependency. So I don't think it implies any form of eternity nor necessity.

Contingency isn't related to absolute as it is the possibility for a thing or a being to be or not to be. Contingency is opposed to necessity or eternity in the very idea that something that is can stop being or move to a non-being position or vice-versa. Now - I'm trying to be synthetic so it is incredibly simplified - if you don't build your world on a primary/first principle and correlationism (and there are many reasons too), Nature emerged from chaos and chaos can't produce a necessary being because precisely contingency is eternal and the only necessity the chaotic world knows.

pauld,

@lack @jordan_kendrick @davidesalerno68 @cbontenbal @economics @smithkm @philosophy Does that answer your question at least partly ?

pauld,

@SusanHR @lack @EdwardJCornwell @msteenhagen @Drew @philippsteinkrueger @spencer @cbontenbal @philosophy Why bringing Descartes into this? If you can't think, believe or imagine something how would you know it exists? So if you don't know it exists, how can you imagine a creator for it?

pauld,

@smithkm @lack @jordan_kendrick @davidesalerno68 @cbontenbal @economics @philosophy Are you answering me? Because I don't know how it is related. It must be a mistake.
