Watched the first ep of Netflix’s 3 Body Problem, and my concern “how are they going to fit this into 8 episodes?” is warranted. It’s just going too fast, to the point of frantic. I think they’ve made a lot of very good cuts to simplify parts of the book, and the 30 episode Tencent series was honestly very slow, but good grief that’s too much to put into one episode. If you’re going to add this many extra characters (and I like the extra characters), we need a little time to meet them.

@TonyVladusich @cocoaphony I can’t imagine it will cover all three books, even at this speed. I’m on board with most of the choices they’ve made in adapting it. Liu’s characterisation was always the weak point of the books, and they’ve done well here to introduce and anchor the plot in people (while we wait for the plot to reveal itself).

People in the fire community (financial independence / early retirement) really over-estimate their ability to do blue collar work when they say stuff like ‘I’ll just barista fire’ (work as a barista after I retire)

Have you made coffee? Do you like coffee? Are you sure you can be hired to make it?

So many tech professionals have no idea what service work is, or how they are profoundly unsuitable to it

I made it to Restaurant Ernst in Berlin today - folks, everything I heard about it got topped by the real experience.

I will not call it best because there is no way to compare Vermeer to Van Gogh or El Greco to Mucha, they are too different - but it's definitely among my absolute recommendations.

I had the full menu (their only option) + the non-alcoholic pairing. Wanna come along?
