Many thanks to @mntyfrsh for the spin of Polaris by @lehto & Tristan De Liege on this great breakbeat mix!

@bathurst @lehto There is so much excellent music on your label! It's perfect for the sets I like to spin!

I used to listen to Annie Nightingale's Radio 1 show in the mid-late 2000s when she primarily focused on the breaks genre (she even had her own entry in the Y4K compilation series!). She was who introduced me to the best music when I first began DJing myself.

r.i.p., Annie.

Seeing how often people are quote tweeting rage baiters on Threads, it's making me glad that Mastodon doesn't have QTs as a feature (and I hope that it never will).

Though it can be fun dunking on an idiot, all it's doing is spreading their message and encouraging them to troll harder.

Hello! Putting together this week's Installer, so as always, I want to know: what are you into right now? Movies, books, apps, projects, subreddits, anything — I want to hear all your latest obsessions.

mntyfrsh,
@mntyfrsh@ravenation.club avatar

@davidpierce In 2012 (and again in 2013), Sennheiser released special editions of their DJ headphones (the HD 25) that had earcups and hinges made of machined aluminum (rather than plastic). They've been out of production since, but Custom Cans recently started making their own version of the aluminum components.

I bought a set and upgraded those parts of the HD 25's I bought in 2009. Wild to imagine anything today lasting this long (while still being upgradeable)!

Just realized why the original PC port of Street Fighter 2 was so awful: it was made by US Gold.

That company must be the kings of dodgy ports.

@atomicpoet I wonder how they managed to get the deal they had with Capcom. I recall them releasing a Strider game at one point as well.

Saw Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning with the Mrs last night.

We're so lucky to still have one of the few remaining drive-in movie theaters. We're going back for Oppenheimer and Barbie in the coming weeks.

If you have a drive-in near you, GO! Support the few remaining drive-ins. Outdoor movies are awesome fun.

I have a moon roof so we just recline the seats a bit, pop it open, and relax. We get the stars above us and movie in front.

mntyfrsh,
@mntyfrsh@ravenation.club avatar

@sysop408 What is the audio situation like in drive in movies these days? Is there a radio transmitter that you tune into?

Can anyone recommend a Mastodon bot that can turn an RSS feed into a dedicated Mastodon account that can be followed on here? Mastofeeder is supposed to do this, but it didn't work on some of the sites I tried it on.

So what I'm getting from a few polls I've seen is that mastodon is stuffed to the gills with old people eh?

Kinda makes sense. Gen X and elder millennial is the sweet spot for tech savvy, much older or younger and it becomes rarer, and mastodon skews tech savvy

mntyfrsh,
@mntyfrsh@ravenation.club avatar

@eniko after joining Mastodon (and seeing that barely any of my friends joining), it's kinda reminding me of how the internet felt before, say, 2008. Like before a lot of the hand-holding of current social media and smartphone apps (for better or worse).

Very surprised that Spoutible seems to be the only Twitter clone (not using ActivityPub) that posts full photos simply from a Pixelfed post URL.

mntyfrsh,
@mntyfrsh@ravenation.club avatar

@DemocracySpot They seem like a promising social network (I especially like the troll percentage meter on everyone's profile). The site itself is still a little buggy though.

mntyfrsh, to Pixelfed
@mntyfrsh@ravenation.club avatar

Pixelfed.social is great, but I noticed that I was unable to follow (or even search for) some photographers from Japan who are on mstdn.jp. I did some digging and I think it might be related to the instance recently being acquired by a crypto bro who also owns Pawoo (a Mastodon instance with some very problematic content).

I'm wondering if there's a formal way to ask @pixelfed to (pretty-please 🥹) unblock mstdn.jp (despite its new owner)?

mntyfrsh,
@mntyfrsh@ravenation.club avatar

@dansup @pixelfed Will do. Thank you!

dansup, to random
@dansup@mastodon.social avatar

Pixelfed does not display text-only posts in timelines, regardless of who we block, P92 posts won't be seen in Pixelfed feeds.

Furthermore, instead of an outright ban, pixelfed.social/art will silence P92, allowing users to opt to follow P92 accounts, or use a domain block to make that choice themselves.

I hope this clears up any confusion.

mntyfrsh,
@mntyfrsh@ravenation.club avatar

@dansup Speaking of which, is there any way to see what instances are banned, silenced, etc (and why) on Pixelfed?

I'm not able to find or follow a few photographers on mstdn.jp, and I assume that users there who follow me on Mastodon won't see my boosts from Pixelfed.social.

Thanks to everyone who reached out, fediDB.org and fediverse.info will remain online going forward.

I'm not going anywhere either, though I think I need a break from the fediverse for a few days.
