For a moment there I was thinking maybe people in Invercargill always have to check potential demo sites for tuatara before they proceed!

Me reading headline “omg there are a lot more tuatara down that way than I realized”

Heard an interesting perspective from a criminal lawyer on this. They think we should copy the Portugal model because meth is attracting the cartels like Sinaloa, and cartel presence normally corrupts police.

I think tighter regulation’s a good thing.

For a start I would love to prohibit alcohol aimed at kids. In my student days I participated in a lot of market research groups and there were so many groups about late teens taste-testing insanely sweet gross RTD alcohols or discussing which alcohol bottle design was more “fun” “feminine” “flirty” etc.

The trouble with that is, we get so much more crime this way. Like you say, there’s much better interventions.

I’m not sure that it’s just logistics and fear of the unknown (though given how long it took Aucklanders to be okay with building a subway, that obviously comes into play)!😀

But talking to people over the years I’ve come to the conclusion that there’s a sizeable chunk of people for whom punishing criminals is much more important than having less crime. I can understand feeling that way, but emotions probably isn’t the best thing to base policy on.

Heheh.

Seriously though I wish professors didn’t say stuff like that. It’s bad pedagogy.

It really is a super cool tree!!! Glad the people who cleared the land around it saved it.

Ha ha of course… Seriously though, I really liked the upbeat, memey feel of it and especially the repeated imagery of the servers that turns into weird things happening to them!

Happy birthday and thanks @Dave for creating and maintaining this cool part of the fediverse.

The recap is really interesting as someone who came a bit late to the party. And the video is cool!!

Thanks for the explanation! Sounds like the devil’s in the details, we’ll have to wait and see.

What is their corporate support? Is that, like, the people who answer the phone when you need to update their files on developments?

Holy moley.

Is there no other way we can stop them doing this? It seems like they are overturning NZ’s democratic process not just specific environmental decisions.

I’'d have thought it was against our constitutional documents or something.

I’m sure most National voters didn’t actually vote for Shane Jones to replace the RMA with his bank account number (pretty sure both main parties were involved in redrafting it). This is going to hurt everyone.

Okay, looking forward to it!

Hey, thanks so much for updating me!! Sorry it took me so long to reply, was taking a break from social media.

I’m so excited for you, it all sounds wonderful. The lowering of tinnitus is an unexpected bonus! Really glad it improved your speech understanding. Made my day reading your comment.

This is my dilemma too! Most of the threads in my instance are politics.

It doesn’t help that I’m actually quite interested in politics.

I just don’t like discussing them online because of the minority of people can’t remain civil.

I can’t find it either, though I bet I could find something rudimentary in a library. But it’s an old artisan skill, so the only real way to learn is to apprentice ourselves to a master clockmaker. I did however spot how to build one in Roblox!

What has your general experience of Kagi been like? Disappointed it was no better at this.

That’s a bit disappointing. I probably do have good search skills but the way search engines are going it takes more effort these days to get the same level of results, so I was aspiring for something that could help if I ever got to the point I could afford it.

Next time I’m doing a big project I’ll give the 100 free searches a whirl.

I was hoping it was more like vivisimo/clusty which used to clump results in patterns, or old version altavista which used to dredge up 10x more results than other engines.

Good on you for supporting tech goals and stuff. That’s really cool.

Thanks, I will bookmark that!

I’m learning so much it stuff by lurking around here! You guys are single handedly catching me up to this decade.

liv,

Ha ha that’s right I forgot about your tiger slug! Did that work out for you as a pet or did it roam away?

liv,
@liv@lemmy.nz avatar

Noooo I hope they can fix it!

I love glockenspiels and wanted to see it one day! (What can I say, in order to be realistic my travel aspirations have become very small).

That’s unnecessarily cruel. There’s no need to tell me I’m “no sane person” or to say I “need to learn what a joke looks like”, just because of one misunderstanding that I literally just apologized to you for straight away.

We’re on the same side about this issue. All I was trying to do, was agree with you and share ideas for how I think left wing people like me could maybe influence middle New Zealand to see how bad the fast track bill is.

I know I’m poorly socialized these days. I don’t get to practice much because I hardly ever get to have conversations irl any more, but it felt friendly here in lemmy.nz until right this moment.

I don’t know if you’re having a bad day or if it’s always like this, but I just… Idk, I don’t come here to get into arguments and be called names, it’s depressing, so I won’t be doing this with you any more.

Anyway, thank you for all the articles you posted in recent months. I have really enjoyed reading them and your thoughts. Nga mihi.

liv,

The fast track could affect so much stuff.

We could end up with white elephant projects or worse, something super destructive from an overseas mining company that we can’t get rid of without opening us up to Investor State Disputes.

It’s a return to Muldoonism but the global stakes are much higher these days, we can’t afford to play banana republic.

I’m not a legal expert but as far as I know if the police are arresting you they can compel this in New Zealand. There is no difference in unlock methods. People get charges for not complying.

This page seems to back this up but it is old.
