Some thoughts about ways to lead quality in modern development orgs, including to whom testers/QEs should report, based on my own experiences: https://lisacrispin.com/2023/10/31/leading-quality-in-agile-software-organizations/ #HolisticTesting #AgileTesting

Happy birthday, @lisacrispin !

lisacrispin,

@gdinwiddie thank you!

Green grass days are probably numbered. Donkeys taking full advantage of their limited pasture time.

Chester wanted to graze, not pose for a picture. The asters are so pretty now.

The iPhone 13 mini is dead, leaving small phone lovers in a lurch

One-handed phones are a dying breed. It makes sense, but it's also a bummer.

lisacrispin,

@arstechnica @gdinwiddie no but I knew they aren’t making more minis 😔 I’m glad I was able to fix mine. Maybe get a few more years.

Here's a quick overview of the #HolisticTesting for #ContinuousDelivery class I'm facilitating Oct. 23-26: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7107106074087804928/

For anyone unaware, Google Chrome is currently rolling out an update that track your interests based on browsing history, then share them with 3rd party websites. The notification page makes it sound like they added a new privacy feature, but in actuality they automatically enrolled you into their tracking system and you have to go and manually opt out.

lisacrispin,

@malwaretech thanks, I saw that but couldn’t work out how to opt out.

I'm teaching (remotely) a "Holistic Testing for Continuous Delivery: For a quality DevOps culture" class Oct. 26-29. Details here, https://www.linkedin.com/posts/lisacrispin_holistictesting-continuousdelivery-activity-7105221345960960000-7x7P , or ping me here for more info. Happy to get on a Zoom call too.

The blue ball is solid plastic and too big for a donkey to pick up. The tire is heavy but gets moved around frequently. Did they (probably Chester) drop the tire over the ball? Or push the ball into the tire? They love to leave me puzzles.

Here’s what the stall looks like first thing in the morning. Feeders moved all over, ball brought in from outside, there was lots of donkey partying overnight.

Stall with PortaGrazer feeders and feed bowls randomly scattered, dish with salt rock knocked over

lisacrispin,

@gdinwiddie donkeys cannot digest silage! They’re just high on life. 😄

Winter is coming… the hair is just starting to grow over their eyes. I love being able to see their lovely eyes. I’ll miss them! 😄

Everyone was down for a nap yesterday afternoon. I wanted to get a better picture but they leapt up when they saw me, knowing it was snack time.

Lazy hazy crazy days of summer, wildflowers and donkeys. 🍀

Munching on the flowers! Mini donkey competing with the pollinators in the field of Queen Anne’s Lace 😄

lisacrispin,

@gdinwiddie I never thought about that! They do seem to consider the blooms a great delicacy. They are fond of chicory, also.

We took a CPR/AED class this morning at our local volunteer fire station. The volunteer instructors set clear expectations about the limits and potential benefits of what we learned to do. I do feel prepared to be able to take positive action until EMS arrives. And we can go back and practice what we learned whenever we feel the need.

lisacrispin,

@gdinwiddie it’s quite tiring! The training uses mannekins (sic) that give feedback via lights so you know if you’re going deep & fast enough

lisacrispin,

@gdinwiddie heh. I was interested to learn that the American Heart Assn has done tons and tons of research over the years. So much has changed since I had a CPR class in the 80s. e.g., they know now compression is 90% of success. You can do two breaths (using a shield device) per 30 compressions, but it's not a big deal to skip the breaths. And - if you have an AED that trumps everything, it will tell you exactly what to do.

To my friends who take care of donkeys: anyone out there caring for a donkey diagnosed with Cushings? One of my minis had a blood test result last week that indicates Cushings, though his levels were normal back in April. I have to start him on Prascend, which I hear equines really dislike. The UK donkey sanctuary says they have good results feeding it in a jam sandwich. (cont)

Request to people involved in software testing in the ‘90s and earlier, especially those with experience in shrink-wrap software:

Does the linked description of the “bad old days” seem OK to you? (A first draft, so not looking for stylistic critique. More “you missed this” or “you exaggerate that”.)

lisacrispin,

@testobsessed @bpettichord @marick Segue rings a bell, I think I used it too!

lisacrispin,

@bpettichord @testobsessed @marick it’s all coming back to me! I did use it but used SQA Robot more.
