I hate how I have to opt out of autopay every time I pay my #wifi bill with #paytm. Can't I just file a case against them in court for malpractice or something?
@Aleenaa@mastodonindians i think you misunderstood the article. gordon is trying to tell the GUESTS what to wear.
this seems like an odd move given that he expects the diners to spend close to £200 for a meal and also wear what gordon likes. it's not like people wearing hoodies during a meal are incapable of good behaviour.
I am curious to know what fonts people are using for the Devanagari script. I want good #hindi rendering. Please don't suggest fonts which use a character map to render Latin characters as Devanagari characters.
Suggestions for other #indian language fonts are also appreciated. Thanks!
Ola's Bhavish Agarwal is on a tirade against linkedin.
People are missing the point. I think the core issue is that linkedin should not delete his comment, even if they dont agree with the contents of it. Bhavish might have a politically incorrect (or correct) take on using pronouns, but either ways its not LinkedIn's job to delete his comment until and unless it runs fouls of government guidelines.
i am of the same opinion tbh. different groups have different politics and, therefore, different ways of dealing with the world. it is ridiculous that most people expect centralised platforms to be able to cater to everyone's needs.
Got my new server up and running, proxmox installed and installed Ubuntu server. That VM will be for my storage and Plex. I'm going to try to give Plex it's own VM or container, but IDK how it will do with an NFS share. I guess that will be a learning experience.
I was thinking about the present conditions of #India when I suddenly thought of revisiting this #movie by #SatyajitRay. "Hirak Rajar Deshe" (In the Land of the Diamond-King). Its portrayal of moving to dictatorial rule is dangerously accurate.
I really wanted to share this#song from the #film. It is in #bengali so I shall provide a translation.
I see such funny things in the world.
Everywhere I look, I am confused beyond words.
I can't make sense of this world.
Oh brother!
Look at the good fellows stuck in their dilapidated homes.
The evil one ascends the throne.
The wheat farmer can't manage two square meals.
The diamond mine's labours are living in poverty.
Oh Brother, how funny is our world!
as a child I loved this #movie as a comedy. the lively humour is extremely well delivered by every actor.
as an adult I feel the pain and fear shown on the faces of the farmer, the mining labour and the teacher. I can appreciate the political satire that it is.
watching it today was almost like #SatyajitRay talking to the current population of #India, before the #LokSabhaElections2024, through this 1980 movie. he is telling us to be extremely careful of the ruler who is willing to #brainwash the public using targeted #misinformation.
@breadly heating is pretty much the biggest issue. summers are particularly frustrating when the heating causes my keyboard to suddenly stop responding 🤷♂️. each time I have to switch off and let it cool down before I boot it again, a simple reboot never worked. currently I use awesomewm on Debian, it has been significantly lighter on the CPU compared to Gnome on Ubuntu. so better battery life and less heating (I think?). unless I stumble across a good explanation of how to tackle these issues, I don't see myself switching from Xorg.
@breadly every time I see a hyperland desktop it looks so lovely and I am immediately tempted to try it. unfortunately, trying to run it on my system is probably a risk I am not willing to take. The hardware is pretty old and if things go wrong, I don't have anything else to work on. when I get myself a new laptop/desktop hyperland will be the first thing I'll try.
just a suggestion:
people replying to posts in the @mastodonindians or any other group, please don't mention the group handle in your replies. it doesn't make sense to read the conversation twice in my feed.
the "mota bhai" (he was senior and fat) who was doing the police verification for my passport issuance was a staunch #bjp supporter. he just would not accept my #aadhar card as my address proof. dude unironically, with a straight face, said that aadhar cards can be faked and people have been doing that a lot.
wah #modi ji, wah! this is the "swabhav mein fakeeri".
