My first book (an unconventional memoir about rebuilding, connection to the land, the past and to oneself) should be out next year!

An abandoned, & heavily ruined, Scottish hunting lodge built in the 1100s with updates made in the 1500s. There really are castle ruins all over Scotland, but this one had the most incredible vaulted ceilling I've ever seen. Also, an intact staircase, many arrow loops, & some obvious cannonball damage to one of the walls.

These structures are often remote, so upkeep would be expensive and difficult, but it is such a shame to see these buildings, full of incredible stone work, be left to ruin.

A black and white photograph of a vaulted castle ceilling. Built from tightly packed, slivers of stone there is a section that has fallen and the sky is visible through it.
A colour photograph of a ruined castle exterior. The sky is blue behind the building and the structure is built from light coloured tightly packed stone. A door and arrow loops are visible and golden grass grows around it.
A black and white photograph of a ruined castle interior. A set of stone steps lead up to a window with tightly packed stone walls all around it.

I regularly spent time in a local grower's polytunnels and it has truly become one of my happy places.

Here are a couple of images from yesterday. These are from my digital camera, which I am incredibly grateful to have as film costs are currently crippling 😩

A photograph of small white flowers trailing acorss the sides of a polytunnel, whilst condensation drips down around them. The colours are light and fresh.

In the last 16 hours on Mastodon I've seen a person who is an expert in cave insects, someone else who posts about moss/slime molds, and a STEM educator who takes a planetarium around remote towns in the US.

To reference Rihanna, 'This is what I came for'.

@Seth I have not. You are my first. We actually bought our 8 year old a fountain pen and ink to go along with the potion shop I created for her birthday. It's not high quality, but certainly a fun place to start.

@Uraael It's amazing the difference it makes. I thought that's what I wanted, to be force fed chaos, turns out there's another option and my brain/body likes this a LOT better.

@Uraael It is indeed. Without a doubt, neurodiverse people are the late but great gift in my life. It has been eyeopening to have such understanding, patient and mutual relationships.

@mrundkvist No! Um, how amazing is it that so many interesting people are just making themselves known to me...Thank you <3

Since being diagnosed with ADHD three years ago my photography has almost exclsuively moved to landscape and flower studies. This is where my brain naturally gravitates, this is where I find quietude.

It's a lovely thing to know oneself.

Want to visit a beach in the middle of a Scottish moor? Then Loch Laidon is for you.

Pine trees, sand and a view to the hills of Glencoe, and all from the middle of Rannoch Moor.

Loch Laidon is just a short walk from Rannoch Station over fairly easy ground.

I'm Kristie & I'm a Scottish, #photographer, #writer & drystone waller.

I live with my 2 ex-husbands (not a sex thing, a mutual support and respect thing) & our 2 daughters.

I'll be 5 years #sober this year & I am a #therapy veteran. 3 years ago I was diagnosed with #ADHD & I now suspect #ASD too. I'm learning to lean into my #neurodiversity & the necessity of a quiet & carefully curated life.

Currently busy writing my first book but in my spare time I love #walking, #gardening & #beekeeping

One of my great loves is drystone, and I'm one of very few female drystone wallers in Scotland/the world.

Here's something we built recently. A 'planticrub' inspired structure.

Planticrubs were small, circular, drystone enclosures traditonally used in Shetland/outer Hebrides for growing kale plants.

@Edent @solderandchaos Love the use of leftover materials. I've heard people say that smearing yoghurt over structures encourages growth, although I've never done it myself. I shove soil into every crevice of the walls in our garden and plant them up with seedum, selfheal etc. If it's possible to do that, I'd recommend it.

@LaChasseuse The main reason was the wind from what I understand but I'm sure keeping hungry sheep away was a helpful bonus.

Whilst I figure out what it all means...please enjoy this 35mm film image of some roses. Think this is Fuji Superia X-tra 400
