Nope. Bernie and his next-gen bloc of Progressives have been consistently trying to get medicare for all passed. They last introduced it in May of last year.

Muslim nurse in New York fired after calling Israel's war in Gaza 'genocide' (www.reuters.com)

WASHINGTON, May 30 (Reuters) - A New York City hospital fired a Palestinian American Muslim nurse after she called Israel’s war in Gaza a “genocide” during an acceptance speech for an award for her work with bereaved mothers who lost their children during pregnancy and childbirth....

jpreston2005,

Not just a Muslim nurse, a Palestinian nurse.

In a portion of her acceptance speech, she spoke about mothers who had lost babies during the war in Gaza, saying the award was “deeply personal” to her.

“It pains me to see the women from my country going through unimaginable losses themselves during the current genocide in Gaza,” Jabr said in the video of her speech that she posted online.

The hospital’s spokesperson in an email said Jabr had been warned in December, "following a previous incident, not to bring her views on this divisive and charged issue into the workplace.

She commented about the active genocide of her own people, and she was fired for it. Who is the coworker getting mad at someone discussing the genocide of their own people? Some zionist just couldn’t take it, had to run off to upper mgmt? And who’s the moron in charge who decided to fire their award winning nurse because she’s sympathetic to the plight of her own people??

jpreston2005,

Yeah, new star trek just has not been paying off. At least the first season of Picard was pretty good. and I love all of Lower Decks (RIP).

jpreston2005,

You couldn’t even provide opening remarks on your own post? it’s like you outsourced the job of posting something interesting to everyone else. “Hey guys can you explain my hot take for me?” what?

jpreston2005,

I am definitely in the minority here, but I can eat the same meal everyday for years.

Before I graduated college, I was overweight. I never got any attention from women, and all my friends thought I was nonathletic. I started waking up at 5:30AM everyday, running a few miles, and then showering before anyone else got up. But I wasn’t seeing the results I wanted, because I hadn’t changed my diet. So I started tracking exactly how much I was eating, and oh boy, everyone who’s done that probably has a similar reaction e.g. “Holy shit I’ve been eating so much.”

So I worked out a meal plan for myself. 500 calories of Steel-cut oatmeal in the morning, intermittent fast through lunch, then 1000 calorie dinner comprised of vegetable soup (add in some croutons and tobasco), turkey sandwiches (open faced for half the bread) with a bag of baby carrots. I use the baby carrots to help me pace the rest of the meal, basically, eat some baby carrots, then one sandwich, then some more baby carrots, then the next sandwich, then some more, then half the soup, then finish the baby carrots, finish the soup. The whole thing takes about 45 minutes to an hour to eat, and leaves me very full.

I’ve rotated out what kind of canned soup I use, as well as the accoutre-mount of sandwich add-ons (cheddar cheese with jalepeno vs. pepper-jack with banana pepper), but I’ve pretty much eaten this meal everyday since 2010.

lol as if Spock would ever get lovesick over a hologram of a person, just to have the real person show up and hate him

jpreston2005,

It worries me that this is basically the weekend mindset of most people. We have limited time, and resources, so we’re trying to get the maximum amount of enjoyment out of as little money as possible. That means we rely on over-consumption of fatty/sugary snacks, over consumption of media in the forms of TV/internet, and the over consumption of intoxicating substances to heighten the experience of the first two.

You’ll find no Netflix, Lemmy, or Weed on Maslows heirarchy of needs, and yet most of us rely solely on these things for enjoyment.

This weekend, set aside time for a healthy dopamine rush. Smoke while cleaning or gardening. Take a walk, talk to a friend, spend an hour on your favorite hobby. Don’t spend every weekend force-feeding yourself dopamine from unhealthy sources, make sure that you’re living your life, and not just mindlessly consuming in an effort to distract yourself from reality. Reality can be pretty great sometime, go outside and give it a try.

The two “miracles”

Acutis was beatified by Pope Francis in October 2020 after a first miracle was attributed to him, involving a Brazilian boy born with a pancreatic defect who said he was healed after praying to Acutis.

According to Vatican News, the news portal of the Holy See, the second miracle involved a Costa Rican woman whose daughter had a bicycle accident and was given a low chance of survival by doctors.

Vatican News said the mother, Liliana, prayed at Acutis’ tomb in Assisi, Italy, and claimed that her daughter recovered soon after.

I have “unlimited PTO” at my office, which sounds nice, but what it effectively means is that you now have to police yourself, to determine whether or not you’re taking off “too much.” Which ends up meaning that the vast majority of employees take less PTO than they’re entitled to (or if they were just given a set amount to take each year), because they’re afraid of being seen as a slacker, or someone who is taking advantage of the PTO policy. Since there are no set guidelines, it means it’s left up to you to decide how fearful of unemployment you are, and how much you let that influence your vacation days.

Out of “Unlimited PTO,” I take about 7-10 days off a year 🙃

jpreston2005,

their own fault. Anxiety and not being able to detach

Thanks, I didn’t realize having anxiety was also my fault

Those people you have to talk off a cliff, it’s because they are cognizant of the fact that they are but 1-2 missed paychecks from being homeless. And if they’re not, well, how long did it take them to get this job? Doubt they have the financial ability to weather another period of unemployment. I’m gainfully employed, get regular raises, but I’m still struggling, despite earning (20k) more than the median worker where I live. The next used car I buy, I’m making sure that I’ll be able to live in there if worse comes to worse.

the stress that accompanies poverty is far-reaching, and invades every other aspect of your life. We’re all just terrified of dying alone on the street, because right now in the U.S. that’s a very real possibility for 60% of us.

jpreston2005,

As a Cavalier fan, it was real hard watching some of his coaching decisions. There were some playoff game moments, where the opposing team was putting on a clinic, and I found myself yelling at the TV for him to just call a timeout, give our guys a set offensive play to run so they can find their rhythm, and he just never did. Some of his line-ups were similarly mystifying. But overall, he was a good coach for our rebuilding team, that turned them into a fantastic defensive unit. We might have been a bit stale on the offensive end, but with Mitchell and Allen out for those Celtics games, we were never getting out of the second round.

I just hope that we can keep both Mitchell and Allen for next year, because our core group of guys are really special, and barring injuries, we’ll be back in the second round next year, hopefully coming out on top.

Putin removed his longtime ally Shoigu from his role as defence minister earlier this month. Two other senior defence officials have also been arrested on corruption charges.

The removal of top military figures seems to also serve as a way to mitigate any push-back when he does order a nuclear strike. I can’t imagine having to countermand my boss on my first day on the job.

Google asserted that its check, which it said covered its alleged overcharges for online ads, allows it to sidestep a jury trial whether or not the government takes it.

jpreston2005,

I’d say it would parallel the results from the Stanford Prison experiment. Give one group of people everything, including the power to decide what happens to people in the out-group, and they will inevitably become hostile towards the out group.

Morality schmorality, we need universal healthcare, daycare, a progressive tax system, and much more. Once society is equitable to all, then all have equal opportunity to behave “morally.”

Biden: what would Trump have done if the Capitol riots had been led by Black Americans? (www.theguardian.com)

Joe Biden has launched one of his most scathing attacks yet on Donald Trump’s record of racism, suggesting that the former US president would have acted differently to the January 6 2021 insurrection if was led by Black people....

jpreston2005,

I started quiet quitting after it came to light that the new hires with zero experience were being paid more than I was, someone who had been there for over a year, and already had 5 years of experience. I no longer give a shit about the company, because they made it clear they don’t give a shit about my contribution. If you want people to put in extra effort, you have to give them extra money. Once you cheat an employee, they’re not gonna get over it because of a pizza party. fucking pay them.

jpreston2005,

Wait, what does this mean? I genuinely thought fossils were the bones, preserved through lack of oxygen

‘How do you get hypothermia in a prison?’ Records show hospitalizations among Virginia inmates (apnews.com)

The Virginia State Police investigator seemed puzzled about what the inmate was describing: “unbearable” conditions at a prison so cold that toilet water would freeze over and inmates were repeatedly treated for hypothermia....

jpreston2005,

The AP obtained records showing inmates at Marion, which houses predominantly mentally ill offenders, were hospitalized for hypothermia at least 13 times in three years during cold-weather months

Nothing to see here folks, just people who were too stupid to be a cop torturing mentally ill people under the auspice of state care. Don’t worry! nothing will happen to them.

jpreston2005,

Aw heck yeah, I missed the first showing, I’ll be damned if I miss it’s return!
