Who would win in an actual no-holds-barred fight between Yoda at his prime and Palpatine at his prime? #StarWarsDay

josevnz,

@almalinux a question that even is, young Padawan?

I fixed 2 bugs today. Coincidentally, the two bugs in combination produced the correct behaviour in my app. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

josevnz,

@willmcgugan nah, one good thing cancels one bad? Wait these were two bads, how does that work?

This is why you can't trust GPTs right now. This screenshot was over the course of MAYBE 15 minutes. Just for the record, the GPT NEVER had the right answer.

josevnz,

@mike I'm looking forward when AI gets introduced on regular phone alarms.
Me: Phone, you gave the wrong time for the alarm
Siri: Nah, you looked like you needed a longer nap and that appointment wasn't THAT important...

This took me by surprise today. I write tutorials because it helps me to really understand technologies that I learn. I also think than if more people understand how things work then the world around us gets better.

It is hard not to write about things you like Like @fedora or Python or OpenSource in general.

Very grateful for this recognition.

@l#RedHat

josevnz,

@fedora Thanks for the opportunity.

josevnz, to python

It started for me as quick GIT repository while I was learning how to use Textual to write Text User Interfaces in Python and ended becoming a small crash course on the framework.

It is possible to write sophisticated applications for the terminal and this makes very easy.

Again thanks to the @fedora Magazine for letting me share this on their E-zine

(As usual, article comes with Open Source code you can use)

I'm working on "Tailless", a TUI to view / search log files.

Added auto-complete to the find dialog, which will suggest content from the log files.

I made the find dialog a "bar" rather than a floating dialog -- it uses space better.

josevnz,

@willmcgugan Man I would love to take it for a spin. Any chance you can search with Regex?

How does it compare to LNAV?

josevnz, to linux

I got a sales pitch from a vendor who sells Raspberry PI and other cool components. Their website doesn't work on Linux.

I told them that I would love to buy stuff from them but I cannot see their products. And If I need support, I won't be able to get in touch.

They told me to stop complaining and use my phone to buy stuff from them.

So guess who is not going to buy hardware that runs Linux from the website that doesn't support Linux.

@mwl saw a nice mention of networking for system administrators on the orange site (though I'm sure you hear this all the time!)

josevnz,

@b0rk @mwl thatโ€™s why I use tshark unless Iโ€™m m forced to go with tcpdump.

I'm very happy about my new article on the Fedora Magazine website. I'm revisiting an old topic here about how to ingest and visualize time series data with InfluxDB and Python, but this time using public data sets from the state of Connecticut.

The article has source code for the script as usual, so feel free to experiment.

Does anyone set the PYTHONHOME environment variable? I'm trying to determine how important it is to support in an API.

josevnz,

@brettcannon Sadly it is very important for legacy software that cannot be converted to modules + pip.

josevnz,

@brettcannon got it. Yeah, if required then users can set it up. I particularly Iโ€™m not a big fan of PYTHONPATH but is is necessary evil in some cases.

Decided to get one of those mechanical keyboards that all the nerds love.

Pretty cool, but Iโ€™m not sure how to post my toots with it.

@DJDarren Just fix the USB port that comes with this model. Oh waitโ€ฆ

If #Textualize had a spirt animal. What species would it be?

josevnz,

@willmcgugan A dog ๐Ÿ•, nothing more loyal and cool than that. All the other animals are overrated.

Dear Red Hat:

are you dumb?

https://www.redhat.com/en/blog/furthering-evolution-centos-stream

I am seriously considering dropping support for all RHEL/Fedora on all my Ansible work.

josevnz,

Hello @geerlingguy,

It is not black and white and from what I understood OSS code will be there, they just switched the location.

I know Eric from our contributions to the Enable Sysadmin blog and he is a good guy. He is honest and I want to share his point of view here:

https://youtube.com/live/YHsbIjk7gyI?feature=share

Ansible OSS is still a community project. RedHat monetizes it with their commercial version, but people in other platforms like Debian can use it.

Happy to discuss here and learn more about this.

The KLOC (thousands of lines of code) was used as metric for developer productivity. Turns out it was useless, and too easily gamed.

But there is another metric used by tech companies that is equally, if not more, ridiculous. The TBICWOC.

Time Buttocks In Contact With Office Chair.

Going for a walk may reduce your personal TBICWOC, but can boost your productivity.

josevnz,

@willmcgugan wait until they combine this metrics with AI, using a blockchain to ensure is decentralized and anonymous while using a multi-cloud environment. Pinnacle of the civilization!

josevnz, to python

I will show you 2 frameworks that can help you with to solve the following problems:

  1. Avoid overwhelm complex and intimidating API when writing applications. Will use Click to solve that problem.
  2. Allow discoverability. This is very important when you have an application that supports many options or that you havenโ€™t used in a while. That is where Trogon comes handy.

Since there are no ads on Mastodon, I am offering to advertise for any companies on here. My only requirements are:

  1. I get to write the ad.

  2. The ad will in no way accurately portray your company and might state that you were responsible for the Cuban Missile Crisis.

  3. For each post you must pay me $10,000 and write me a handwritten note that says I am your best friend.

  4. You must put out an official statement stating that you take full responsibility for the Cuban Missile Crisis.

josevnz,

@lowqualityfacts You are pushing it about us be friends. How dare you! ๐Ÿ˜‚
