Often the worst part of being #covidcautious is when plans go wrong. Was planning drinks with friends, insisted on outdoor seating, all good to go… then the bar was shut. Immediately, discussion moves to indoor only place. And I’m going home. 🙁
@jthomas411mania While Guardians 1-3 overtook it as my favourite MCU films, I still adore this one. I agree entirely with you that Hemsworth deserved way more credit for finding the core of Thor very quickly.
@jthomas411mania So goddamned good. I loved the creators response to Nick Hornby shading the film by claiming his novel was about “London.” The movie is about Chicago. It’s still the same emotion and about how a city drives your life, and how pop music provides the soundtrack.
The people getting most upset about The Crew are puzzling to me. “Sure, Ubisoft fostered a culture of sexual abuse and actively protected predators,” they say, “But delisting a decade old game is the last straw!”
They’re not wrong to call out Ubisoft’s anti-consumer practices but these practices are both widespread through the industry and far from the worst thing Ubisoft has done.
The point where the franchise jumps the shark -- and sadly, the shark doesn't eat them in some Rube Goldberg-ian way. My ★½ review of The Final Destination (2009) on @letterboxd: https://boxd.it/5W4c37#FinalDestination#Horror#Letterboxd
@jthomas411mania I’m still so mad at this film because I decided to finally try out the franchise and the deceptive title made me think this was the first one.
So, it's okay for Swifties to stand in screaming, singing, dancing crowds and take #COVID19 risks. But Taylor is more important, I guess.
“When Taylor is on tour, strict measures are put into place to stop her interacting with anyone outside of her 'bubble'. They can not risk her getting sick under any circumstances. Even those in her bubble, including her dancers and managers, are restricted what they can do and where they can go during their downtime.”
@augieray It’s really a microcosm of the whole problem. The only way we had to stop the spread was to turn off “the machine”. But the machine is what makes the rich their money.
I love how for decades liberals have tried to pursue National Popular Vote, a questionably constitutional idea that would improve the USA’s democratic ideals (to their benefit) and gotten nowhere, but trying to stay under the radar.
People are weird. While a pandemic enters its fifth year that most are simply ignoring, a new survey found that 48% think it's likely (and only 34% unlikely) that "there will be a new global pandemic caused by a new virus in 2024."
Maybe if we focused on the pandemic we have today and adopted the safety behaviors we KNOW protect against all viruses, we wouldn't need to worry about a new pandemic in 2024. #COVID19
I don't post on here much any more, or monitor it much, so probably better to find me on Bluesky if you need me.
De gustibus etc. No platform is perfect. But I feel more comfortable there, and less like I'm likely to get screamed at for using Latin without a CW or something.
