Whenever I check in on the mortal remains of tweety/x thing I think about the rust belt in the US, used to be thriving and vibrant communities, and now just fetid decay, in spite of many folks clinging to it.

I will never understand people who prioritize accessories over maintenance and repairs for their rides. The folks who throw time and money into performance improvements, but ignore maint/repair are a special kind of menace.

I just found out that lady fren had never heard the Ramones' "I wanna be sedated" and I cannot believe that is possible for someone our age. How the hell can you have never heard it?!!?
She blames it on the insular nature of academia, but I just can't even.

When I was a kid I figured out that if I wanted to know how the magician did a trick I shouldn't look where they pointed. Then I figured out that this didn't just apply to magicians, but to politicians, media, clergy, and more.
A whole bunch of folks have not figured this out.

@jadugar63 It is depressing, especially being old enough to have seen apparent progress in my lifetime, and watching is dissolve before our eyes. Related to my original thought, those who tell us who to fear are probably the ones we should fear most. But the powerful have always worked to divide everyone else, heaven forbid all of us just trying to get through this life get together and challenge... anything.

Sometimes when I am driving through the squalor and decay on the back roads of America, I can hear Winston say "do it to Julia not to me". And then I hear the media, the politicians, and many churches say "yes, do it to Julia, Julia deserves it."
As telling as that line from 1984 may be, I still think Brave New World was the more prescient of the novels.
Or maybe I just need more coffee.

One of my doctors has changed his practice affiliations and has a new "patient portal" with too many options. I did almost hit the checkboxes for "English, Middle (1100-1500)" and "English, Old (ca. 450-1100)" under languages spoken.
I do not speak these, but neither does he, so WTF.
