Thank God … I’ve been on Gimp and Scribus for the past 15 years, mainly because I could never afford Adobe products for the little bit of work I needed them for.

I was open source a long time ago because I just couldn’t afford paying for stuff for the little time I needed software. Now I’m happy to be fully open source and even contribute with donations to the projects I like the most. I donate annually now to projects like Wikipedia, Libreoffice, Scribus and Fediverse developers and projects.

This is one criticism I’ll always have with open source supporters … if you want open source alternatives, contribute with donations to them. Give anything you can afford … $1, $2, $10 … because they need money to survive and stay engaged and committed to their project.

If we all just stand aside and take advantage of free open software and not give anything, then we are no better than the corporations we were trying to avoid. Instead of corporations taking advantage of us, we are taking advantage of developers.

So if you want these open projects to live and survive, contribute to them with whatever you got. If we all just gave a dollar each to these projects, no matter what they are, the developers would have more than enough to maintain their work.

And whatever you contribute, it will be far less than the hundreds of dollars annually you would have given to a big corporation that would have just counted your money as profit and not directly contribute or support the actual developers.

That’s the unfortunate part of modern society. Many people are barely able to make a living to get by that when they do have time off, all they want to do is sleep and do nothing. It’s not that they are necessarily lazy or unmotivated, it’s that they are tired and need the rest.

People don’t create, or get into a hobby unless they have enough free time and money.

If all your free time is spent on trying to get a bit more money to live … any bit of time you have to just sit will be spent either sleeping or watching TV.

I’m full blooded Indigenous … I was born into my family, I have a status card, I grew up in my home community and my first language is Ojibway-Cree … I’m a brown skinned darked hair Indian … the first 12 years of my life, all I ever knew was my Indigenous culture, family and language....

Is that to say that the whistleblower is going to make a public courtroom ‘head shot’ against the corporate giant …

… or is the whistleblower going to end up with another conveniently timed self inflicted ‘head shot’ that will end their life.

This warming winter trend just looks like a curiosity now because it is warm when it should be freezing cold right now.

Wait until July comes around … it will mean drought and extreme heat. Everyone will pump up air conditioning use and push the electric system to the brink. And water, having enough water, will start becoming something that is harder to find.

It does not look good.

Indigenous veterans cleanse memorial after Nazi flag incident (www.aptnnews.ca)

You always know who you are dealing with and what they represent when they are open enough to want to fly a Nazi flag at their protest. And even to the ones who didn’t hold the flag or support it … how many people were actually around to prevent or stop it from happening in the first place.

Did anyone notice how one billionaire has the power and control to decide who can be elected and who can’t?

That isn’t a democracy - government by the people

That’s known as a plutocracy - government by the wealthy

The Lonely Trapper

After three days of travel through the northern mushkeg, the lone trapper made his way to a small clearing to break camp for the night. The sun was fading in the western sky, clouds hung low in long dark bands on the horizon signalling colder weather to come. It was autumn and this was the second season that the young trapper...

Always amazes me how stories of murdered Indigenous women fall to page three or four in the news … increase the body count to 12 and everyone generally shrugs their collective shoulders.

If it had been reported that it was 12 Caucasian women … it would have made headline news and reported round the clock for a week.

I’m somewhat relieved that something is being done about this … as an Indigenous person, it feels sad that stories like this are not that terribly important to the rest of the Canada.

Same here and I felt the same way when I saw the story in the news.

I’d rather see tens of thousands of dollars spent on taking care of the medical needs of a human being than in paying tens of thousands of dollars on another bureaucrat or politician flying around the country attending conferences or expensive meetings.

We have more than enough money and resources to pay for the medical needs of everyone in the country regardless of their status or situation … it’s the creeping privatization of our medical system and institutions that makes it so unaffordable and needlessly complicated and difficult to maintain.

I thought I’ve watched a lot of Trek … I’ve seen all of TNG, VOY, half of TOS, a few episodes of DS9, DISCO, and currently watching SNW Season 2 … and I’ve seen most of the movies

According to this Comic Book Resources …

Every single television series, both currently airing and retired, totals up to around 48,700 minutes, which is approximately 812 hours or 33.8 days. Every series and movie combined totals 837.5 hours, meaning it will take 34.9 days to watch them all uninterrupted.

The conversations and debates keep circling around one core concept of our civilization that is slowly becoming outdated because it is the main bottleneck in our development and the development of technology.

Capitalism and the money system.

Human needs require all of us to make a bit of money in order to survive.

Human greed demands that we want to go beyond survival and just become enormously wealthy without regard for anything or anyone.

AI is quickly out pacing us and nothing is holding it back because the possibilities are limitless now. The only thing holding it back is our own collective greed. To AI the internet and communications is a place to exchange information not a place to make money.

And to me the problem is the small group of individuals that want to maintain the system of generating all the wealth for them. Because the answer is simple, if wealth were more equally distributed in the world and everyone everywhere were happy and healthy with what they had and they no longer had to worry about surviving, there would be no backlash of worrying about advertising on the internet and in how to compensate people for their work.

We worry about the money system because 90% of humanity constantly has to fight to have a piece of it and 10% of it has complete control of all of it and never wants to let go.

This isn’t a problem of internet advertising and compensating creators … it’s just a symptom of wealth inequality and until we solve that problem, AI will just keep chipping away at civilisation beyond our collective control.

This isn’t equivalent.

This person believes in a god that is evil or malevolent.

Atheists argue that there is no god that is either good or evil

I don’t believe there is a good god nor do I believe there is a bad god … or a child god, or an intelligent god or a dumb god.

I just don’t believe there is any god

ininewcrow,

This will go down as one of the worst, dumbest, most inane and completely retarded political campaigns in history … a broken immoral illegitimate unqualified candidate supported by an entire sector of the country because they couldn’t come up with an actual political leader that could have freely and openly met with far more support. Instead, they took the worst candidate they could find and have poured billions of dollars to drag him up to their leadership and spend a fortune to try to convince everyone that they are right.

This is like giving $10,000 to the local mafia to not break your favourite store keepers kneecaps … then the next day finding out the store keepers kneecaps were broken anyway

You want to show outrage? … stop handing these idiot corporations money. If they are too big to fail, then they shouldn’t fail if they survive on their own. If they fail because we didn’t help them, then it just means that they weren’t viable as a business anyway. Stop giving them handouts and bailouts.
