Mystery tree of the day. Maybe a shrub. Extremely popular with the pollinators. Blooms year round. Covered always with honeybees, carpenter bees, native bees, hummingbird, you name it. Neighbor (one that will talk to me, LOL) hates it and always tells me she wishes I would get rid of it. (Update: Almost certainly Grewia occidentalis, the Crossberry -- very useful plant, and edible!!!) #mystery

@JoeRess on the latest late night linux, you mentioned the all podcasts feed. i don't use the unified feed because i don't listen to one of the shows.

i appreciate you announcing other podcasts in the family. i'm subscribed to linux (down || dev) time but i wouldn't know if a new podcast showed up otherwise.

I'm still mulling over my project of connecting three buildings. Currently two of the buildings are connected with a bridge but I'm not happy with the weird subnetting.

Anyone have strong opinions on equipment if starting fresh? I'm considering gear as I've used it with some success in the past. Also considering or for the routers.

I could, in theory, bury a cable for it but that's real effort so I'm going wireless.

It seems to me that the reselling craze that happened in the sneaker world appears to be happening in the gaming world, too. I wonder what other little hobbies/subcultures have this problem.

There is so much going on in and a ton of mechanics. It's got a d2 feel to it but I'm a little overwhelmed with the endless options. Heavy decision paralysis. I'll keep messing with it for a bit and see how things go.

Today marks my 41th loop of screaming around the sun. Things are generally good considering all of the bad. I'm not much of a birthday celebration kinda guy but I did get myself a piece of cake last night, só that was nice. There's always a good excuse for cake.

Taking a minute to appreciate how damn resilient my services/servers in the house are at the moment. They're all deployed slipshod and manually, too. Despite some annoyances, we've come a long way with software.

i'm also curious how well #matrix works for it. my general experience with matrix as an end user with "normal" people has been overall terrible, even with great projects like @element

I have broken two French presses this year after owning both for over a decade. Glass is just borrowed.

That means I'm down to making in the džezva today. I still have a moka pot but this reminds me of my time in Croatia. It's a slower, more thoughtful brew.

Might help me cut down my caffeine consumption before the big tournament in August, too. I learned at the last tournament that I won't be able to have coffee mid-day so I need to be prepared for that.

Booked my work flights a couple weeks ago and had my seats selected. Go to check in for my flight and I don't have a seat selection. Managed to get decent seats for the trip out to work (naturally I had to pay extra for them) but I'll have to ride in the middle row for the whole five hour flight home. Real awesome for a tall dude in cattle class. I love air travel.

Been staring at #meshtastic #lora radios for a little bit now. Should probably play with the radios I already have, though. Been a hot minute since I've touched anything radio related. I think I enjoy theory more than communications, which is why #ft8 was so nice for me. I am quite mic shy.

Anybody have recommendations for a decent computer (laptop or small form factor) that can withstand some abuse and a mildly hostile environment?

It should be able to run Linux and be fast enough to play YouTube videos at 480p without stuttering. Bonus if it'll run off of a 12vdc power supply and is easily repairable.

I need a new garage computer and I'm about to start scouring eBay.

I think I might end up on the job hunt again due to some recent news. Doing what I can to avoid it but just in case I figured I'd cast this post into the void.

I've got a varied skill set. Mostly infosec, devops, and backend dev type stuff. I prefer smaller shops but I can find a stride almost anywhere. The only thing I avoid heavily is JavaScript and frontend webdev.
