hlegius, to linux

Miss the good times when you could buy #slackware #linux install discs - either from Linux magazines or directly from the maintainer. I’m a bit nostalgic, one might say.

@hlegius I think I got mine from a local PC User's Group swap meet.

#Slackware still being the last in popularity since... ever?

@hlegius I dunno... my first foray into Linux was via Slackware off the Infomagic CD set in 1995. My first few years in Linux were spent in Slackware.

hlegius, to homelab

What you’re using for Linux virtualization? QEMU or Xen are still a thing?

@hlegius Proxmox at home. At work, RedHat has qemu based virtualization fairly well integrated. Works great, even with some very old guests.

hlegius, to emacs

I’m looking for alternatives to #emacs #orgmode for #iPadOS . I used to ssh’d to a remote machine with Emacs, but it isn’t that good even with Mosh. Suggestions? Halp! 🆘
At the end of the day, I want to use the org-roam note-taking plugin. I know about #Logseq but I wonder if there’s something else to look for 👀

Boosts for reach, pls!

hlegius, to orgmode

I’ve been revamping my #orgmode setup on #Emacs, specifically org-agenda and org-todo. I miss the full integration between org-contact and org-agenda for birthdays in agenda view, and it seems to be the cause of a version mismatch - I’m using Emacs 27, default to #Slackware 15

This incompatibility probably causes the error, a silly one where ‘date’ is a void variable within the ‘org-contacts-anniversaries’ function.

hlegius,

@dekkzz76 true that.
I’m considering compiling the recent 29 if #Slackware doesn’t bump it to 28 in the next few weeks.

@hlegius

i use debian & was resigned to the slow path as debian were really slow to get to 28.1 but surpising 29 hit testing a few weeks ago

hlegius, to thinkpad

#Thinkpad is great, but I can’t get used to its screen resolution and pixel density - I’m using an L14 gen2. It either looks big and narrow or very small for a decent workspace

@hlegius

if you want to know the LCD panel info which will be in xorg logs in the /var/log directory, scan down till you come to the section about EDID values, you might see something about vendor specific block with a string like LTD141EN9B

search that string to get the detailed info on what lcd panel you have

hlegius,

@dekkzz76 good to know! It's a BOE panel.

hlegius, to random

Oh! There was a whole thing with #Fosstodon that I missed for being absent from social media
