Unions can also be their own oppressive mess but it’s probably slightly better than what we have now. I do worry about how rigid unions would hamper true indie game work.

I support the game industry unionizing, not only to create reasonable working hours, but also to stop companies from getting rich off our hard creative work. I don’t think game writers should be part of the WGA, the business are too different, and I’ve seen the cluster fuck of hollywood unions trying to get into games.

I really hope the TV writers can get something meaningful from the strike. I’m skeptical only because big companies taking advantage of creatives is burned into their DNA. I see this all the time. Thimbleweed Park was the first game I ever saw anything from. I am getting something from RtMI but it’s small. I’ve created a lot over the years and only made other people rich.

Getting AI to write your game dialog is about the same as getting some C- high school student to do it. At least with the later you be giving a high school student a job.

Spell checking on the Mac is really bad. It can't suggest a correction for "proces" -> "process". It's surprising the number of misspellings off by a single letter that it can't correct. I would have thought spell checking was a solved problem.

@peter_sc The bad Mac spell checking has little to do with ML, it's hasn't been updated in 20 years. Like a lot of Apple stuff that doesn't directly make them money, it has been forgotten.

Rad. Looks like they're streamlining onboarding to the default -> move later once you know what that means, flow. Also sounds like quote toots and some degree of search is coming. That's all the major requests I've seen regularly, so, yay? Yay!

Folks who want it to stay how it is: you can, the ability to use a fork is right there. Many already do. Presumably there will be opt in/out for all the search, doubt that'll even take a fork. https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2023/05/a-new-onboarding-experience-on-mastodon/

@glassbottommeg The thing that annoys me is if I follow a Mastodon link from an external source (web page) it takes me to a server I'm not logged into. For non-tech people this is confusing. I don't know how to solve this without a centralized source.

I would guess that if you asked fans, a surprising number of them would be familiar with the "stump joke". The sequels make references to it. Fans make references to it. Even @grumpygamer himself has been known to make references to it.

So why is it that you can't buy a version of The Secret of Monkey Island that still has that joke? You'd think Disney, of all companies, would know that two things with the exact same title can still be surprisingly different.

@et_andersson It wasn't Disney that removed it, it was Lucasfilm (before the purchase). My guess is it created product support issues. It did even back when I was there. They hated me for that joke.
