What are your thoughts on self-diagnosis being belittled by many in the autistic community?

For clarity, I’m not asking to start a debate, just a genuine discussion. I currently don’t have the option to get a diagnosis, but feel fairly confident that the research I’ve done over the past year and a half has been legitimate and credible.

I don’t feel comfortable saying that I am definitively autistic, but I am ok with saying I’m “self-suspecting.” @actuallyautistic

@chevalier26 @actuallyautistic The ones I’ve seen who are vehemently against self diagnosing are either rigid about “rules” (either their own perception or a doctor’s), they think that trolls are trying to swarm into the group, or they’re the Pick-Me type. For the most part I ignore them; after being on this planet for 37 years I’m confident in my judgment of whether I’m autistic or not.

@Whiskeyomega Love going back and listening to the first album just because it was (at the time) quite experimental (love me some Clint Eastwood and 19-2000) but the second one definitely sounds more polished.

Public library staff in an Alabama town have locked up the library and walked off their jobs after the library's director was fired. The director had refused to remove 113 books with LGBTQ+ content from circulation after being ordered to do so by a library board dominated by right-wing Christian fundamentalists.

It's been really nice to use the #InstaxWide printer. I was able to select some old digital photos of my late void so I can have physical copies and not worry about losing everything in case my computer or portable hard drive stops working. I like that I can just do it from home without having to travel out of my way to the nearest photo center.

Next up is to curate photos of my late torti girl. I've got all sorts of crazy ass photos of her lol.

    @jonobie I miss SyFy's Face Off. They had prosthetic makeup artists compete with each other with different themes each episode, and some of the creations were absolutely wild! I really liked that it wasn't set up as drama farming either; everyone was respectful of each other and had a good time.

    One of the new books I've recently purchased is called "Planta Sapiens: The New Science of Plant Intelligence" by Paco Calvo with Natalie Lawrence.

    I picked it up because I remembered years ago watching some episodes of a docu-series on Netflix that was in a similar vein; regrettably I don't recall the name of the series and wish I watched it in its completion, but it talked about stuff that is not really in the public knowledge, and new discoveries at the time.

    I've wanted since then to learn more, but it always seemed like information was spread out and hard to engine search, or not available to the public at all, at least at the time I was looking, so I kind of have up (I could also just suck at looking things up lol).

    I'm hoping this book will finally be what satiates my need to learn more about the subject.

    Shiny new toy/early Xmas gift to myself. Great deal at Costco, but I’m also going to sell my other two (#AE2 and #Triport ) to get back some of the cost.

    I got it because my new phone is Bluetooth only now, but I do like that the headphones are backwards compatible so I can still use it on my older stuff. #Bose #QuietComfort

    Im going to lose my mind. I saw a post here a while back about how trees can do this thing where they latch on to a cut down/dead tree and sort of nurse it back to life and the two trees develop mutualism or smthn but I cannot remember what this behavior is called or anything more specific than that. aaaaaaaa.

    Lmao, nothing seems to go smoothly for me when I try to be mechanically inclined. I am confident I did everything right as per the instruction video I’ve watched (all the way through) for my garage sale sewing machine; put everything back together and the reverse lever is jammed. Now to decide if I continue on this troubleshooting adventure, or accept my fate that I’ll forever be either paying someone to service my stuff or chucking my machines if I can’t get anyone to fix them.

    Kicking myself for not keeping up with Gorillaz, so now I'm having to play catch up on albums (hell I didn't even know Damon and Jamie went separate ways at one point). I'm a bad fan (lol not really). #Gorillaz
