@ivory Do you currently have any plans for a visionOS native version? The iPad app running in compatibility mode works well, but…

Imagine an alternate reality where Steve Jobs never budged on allowing apps on the iPhone, but allowed people to jailbreak their phones as long as they took responsibility for it (like how some Chromebooks have a dev mode).

You'd have tons of fun little apps, and almost no of the app store. You'd also have a lot of great PWAs for those who never wanted to jailbreak their phones.

I don't miss the iPhone, but I absolutely miss the golden era (2008-2013ish) of the .

@ianthetechie @1dalm @RL_Dane the overall stability of the operating system would also be worse. Do you remember when people were jailbreaking iPhones? They were notoriously unstable.

Requirements to put in a job description to discourage or filter out autistic people:

  • Comfortable with ambiguity
  • Strong people skills
  • Good culture fit
  • Multitasking
  • A fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Bachelor's degree or better

I see these things and think you don't want my >30 years of programming and machine learning experience, or my problem-solving skills and comprehensive knowledge that had people mistaking me for one of the team's PhDs, or my solutions that have proven patent-worthy. Your loss.

@hosford42 @polotek @actuallyautistic @neurodivergence

I completely agree. In my experience, ambiguity comes predominantly from poor communication. It starts at the top, with high-level managers not communicating clearly with middle managers. Middle managers don’t absorb the ambiguity and clarify it with communication. They pass it down to the workers.

“Comfortable with ambiguity” is code for “we don’t communicate effectively.” Yeah, it’s a red flag for us #ActuallyAutistic folks.

I ran into a troll this morning, and found myself balancing two urges:

  1. Jump into the fray, argue logically, help them understand that they’re wrong.

  2. Don’t feed the trolls. Don’t feed the trolls. Don’t feed the trolls.

I have a good friend who is #Autistic .

And one of the things she says she appreciates about me is that I am willing to explain various things from my perspective and life experience on request (currently, she is curious about meal planning and budgeting) without either telling her how she is supposed to do things or making her feel bad by telling her how she "fails at life" by not being capable of doing some <neurotypical thing>.

Considering how often she mentions this, I am quite disturbed at the behavior of, apparently, quite a few of my fellow neurotypicals. I mean, is it really so hard to explain stuff without being judgmental about other peoples' lives and life experiences? Is it really so hard not to be a dick about things when we encounter people with a different perspective on our own? 😒

felyashono,
@felyashono@disabled.social avatar

@juergen_hubert Thank you for your general respect. It’s surprisingly rare!

BTW, we prefer to reserve #ActuallyAutistic for scenarios where the poster is autistic themselves (as I am).

In the case of a non-autistic posting about those with autism, we consider #Autisic to be appropriate.

"In a Galaxy, far far away..."

Those words are said at the beginning of Star Wars.

That is because the story of Star Wars is being told from the story tellers point of view.

My theory for Ahsoka is the Galaxy they are now going to is the Milyway. The story is coming full circle.

felyashono,
@felyashono@disabled.social avatar

@Linux_Is_Best
I agree, but I have misgivings about this. One of the times that we see the map, it’s clearly indicating a star system on an “outer spiral arm of the galaxy,” as HH2G puts it. If Ahsoka follows in Battlestar Galactica’s footsteps and comes (probably a prehistoric) earth, it could very easily jump the shark.

As you say, the story is coming full circle. “All of this has happened before, and will happen again”

    @AutisticAdam @actuallyautistic There are contexts where non-autistics feel free to express their reluctance to change. For example, when technology they rely on changes, they’re don’t hesitate to complain to the companies that make the tech.

    But of course, they’re not comfortable with the tech in the first place. Whereas we’re not comfortable with the world.

    I just rewatched the first season of
    The Wheel of Time to prepare for the highly anticipated second one and

    So I watched eps 1 and 2 of Ahsoka and it made me realize what a key role Favreau played on The Mandalorian. Filoni is so in love with the Star Wars lore that every shot is framed like it's Huge and Important, but the show just hasn't earned that yet, so it comes off slow and ponderous. Filoni really needs a co-creator next to him saying "this is boring, how can we make the audience care?" That was Favreau for The Mandalorian and his absence in Ahshoka is palpable.

    And in particular, has been done with this character before. Ahsoka sucked and was universally disliked in TCW Season 1. But slowly her character arc turned her into a fan-favorite. AND it was Filoni’s idea.

    My guess/hope is that he’s doing it again, but this time from a darker place that Ahsoka’s in. I’m going to wait and see.
