Trying to work on my couch for the day. See how it goes.

I usually have two 4K monitors attached to the MacBook and have the MacBook open to use the additional space. But I usually have to manage a dev team. On Friday it’s usually much quieter and I can focus on my dev stuff.

If I work on private projects I do it often from the couch so I know it's doable in theory.

I always have the option to switch to my desk so I guess it's fine.

But the goal is to find a good workflow to only work on one screen from time to time to be more flexible with where I work. For example: I never worked in a café and would like to try this one day.

@kaiserkiwi I did that when I needed to stay at home to care for my sick cat (and it was vital for me not to sit in front of my usual desk, as that would prompt the cat to beg that I let him out). Using the small 15 inch laptop instead of the giant screens I'm used to.
Curious to compare experiences with coding on the couch!

@kaiserkiwi Yeah, that's a huge downsize!
Do you have a gadget to keep the laptop off your lap? I never owned a mac so I don't know if "the device is hitting up and burning my knee-caps" would be an issue for you, but it was for me when I had to code from the sofa.

Ich suche selbst (und schreibe fleißig Bewerbungen), will es aber parallel auf diesem Weg versuchen:

Praktikum in einer IT-Firma oder Softwareabteilung gesucht (Umfang: 2 Monate, Ende spätestens 31.10.24).

Ich kann bereits: Strukturierte und objektorientierte Programmierung mit Java.
Ich lerne gerade: SQL.
Kommt noch: HTML, CSS, Javascript.

Ein Modul bereitet explizit auf Firmenanforderungen vor.

Ich frage mich regelmäßig, warum wir es im Deutschen so schwer mit Neo-Pronomen haben. Im Englischen ist das mit "They/Them" ziemlich simpel und es ist scheinbar safe es zu nutzen. Nutzt jemand ein anderes Pronomen, ist They/Them zumindest nicht verletztend. Warum nehmen wir uns daran kein Beispiel und arbeiten mit "Sey/Sem"?

Stattdessen lese ich ständig "Xier/Xiem", "Zet/Zerm", "Hän/Sim"(???) und andere (für mich) nicht nachvollziehbare Lösungen. Einige davon sind zudem schwer/umständlich auszusprechen (Xier z.B.)

Woher kommt das? Gibt es hier etwas zum nachlesen, warum es nicht "so einfach" ist, wie ich es mir vorgestelle?

Würde mich freuen, wenn ich hier ein bisschen mehr zu dem Thema lernen könnte. Vorzugsweise von Personen, die es betrifft. Es gibt nun wirklich genug Cis-Hetereo Personen, die bei dem Thema mitreden, obwohl sie still sein sollten.

@kaiserkiwi es ist ein Trugschluss, dass es im Englischen nur they/them gibt. They/them ist seit paar Jahrhunderten das Default für "Geschlecht unbekannt", das außerdem/zusätzlich von einigen Leuten als deren Personalpronomen eigener Wahl verwendet wird. Aber auch im Englischen gibt es durchaus Menschen, die für sich entschieden haben, dass Leute bitte andere Formen nutzen, um über sie zu sprechen. (Wühl dich mal durch die Listen bei @gendercensus für einen Überblick, es gibt jährlich Umfragen.)

@kaiserkiwi Im Prinzip ist der einzige Unterschied zwischen Englisch und Deutsch hier, dass es im Englischen eine etablierte Variante für "Geschlecht unbekannt/unwichtig" gibt und im Deutschen bisher nicht. Es gibt mehrere Ansätze, eine zu etablieren (Illi Anna Heger entwickelte dafür 'xier', die Sylvain-Konvention erweitert die deutsche Sprache mit dem Indefenitivum als viertem Genus, um nur zwei Optionen zu nennen.) Aber final durchgesetzt hat sich (noch) nichts.

@kaiserkiwi Im Zweifelsfall geht ja "Name" falls bekannt, oder "eine Person, die ..." falls unbekannt. So mache ich das im Alltag. (Mir ist bewusst, dass einige andere Lektorierende das als schlechten Stil einordnen würden. Aber aus eigener Erfahrung damit, geschlechtergerecht Geschichten zu schreiben: Es fällt viel weniger auf, als viele meinen würden.)

it is absolutely wild to me that redhat and suse still exist. in the 19 years since i switched to linux, i don’t think i’ve ever met a single person who uses either of them

@skye funnily enough, both were at some point used as the distribution while I was at school. (2001-2009)
We could also switch between KDE and gnome interfaces at some point. I think I used the latter when I couldn't handle the brightness.

@skye I would like a fork that's tumblr-Style (Subject line, body of the post, additional tags that are both searchable and mutable).
But than, again, even if this already exists I'd still need to find an interesting instance. So staying at literatur.social because I like the community here.

@skye I've checked friendica years ago as someone from a writing bulletin board I'm on dotes on it but couldn't find a community back than. Apparantly, it hasn't changed much :(
