If you ever wonder why people like open source :

  • Think of a feature you'd like to see in your favorite closed source application (let's say Discord, as I did recently)
  • Look into if you can submit feedback or suggestions to whichever company makes said software. You'll only have this option if you're lucky, frankly.
  • Push a feature into the void and pray to the gods that someone both sees it and understands the value.

Consider that, with , you can just test it out yourself.

You also don't need to try to justify a feature using some metric like market demand nor will you get pushback around the idea that an idea is too niche or confusing. Anything that helps you, you can add yourself. And if others find it useful -- then, great -- go ahead an collaborate if you wish.

@verge I like the way the recall feature is low key microsoft just admitting they're watching your pc activity. Best case, it's only local on device spying that might be a security exploit. Worst case that all of that stuff is sent up to whatever Azure service microsoft is maintaining. Make of that what you will.

The more I use the #XboxSeriesX the more I understand why people still buy PCs for gaming.

I modded #Fallout4 just a but and the "most powerful console ever" struggles if I go in a town.

Still looks like shit, despite the "next gen" patch and the Xbox is hearable and I can count frames.

I guess Modding and consoles will never go hand in hand.

Modding and a locked down system with very limited file system access just don't mix well. I think console manufacturers should at least reflect on the strengths of their own devices instead of trying to shoehorn solutions that don't fit the market they are seeking to serve. That might require more creative thinking, but it would serve them better than being simply limited PCs.

I couldn't stop thinking about the Meta AI chatbot that made up a human experience in a parenting Facebook group - so I wrote about why online communities are for people, not chatbots. Decades of social computing research tells us that information seeking in online communities is as much about shared experiences and human connection as it is about getting an answer. @cfiesler the problem is that tech companies don't seem to care about what they should do. There's a systematic problem with the silicon valley mindset of enter and disrupt a market quickly while punting concerns and dismissing dissenters. They literally force changes on society that serve no benefit but to benefit themselves.

It would be really nice if blender had the ability to highlight in red faces that aren't 3 or 4 sided (An "ngon highlight" view in the viewport overlays section.)

I'm sure I could make that pretty easily, but want to know if others feel like it would be useful. Right now, I'm manually selecting all N-Gons and then assigning them to a group, but it would be much more efficient for there to be a way to automatically highlight ngon faces.

@yora what really blew me away was the intractability of the skins, down to the EQ filters.

Makes me wish someone would make a jellyfin interface that behaves roughly like this lol

I don't really get why the default view for "Files Changed" in github is to only show one commit and not show all commits in a pull request.

It makes it harder for reviewers I think.

@PixelBandits Loved what I played of this @ GDC this year. It was a surprise to see it as I was just talking to friends about whether or not the PS1/N64 aesthetic is redeemable and I think this game highlights that there are things to like about the art style for sure.

@retrododo I really only ever played Gen 1 through, really.

By the time Gen 2 came out, I was already playing bigger RPG games.

I think I've been sleeping on kneaded erasers. It's actually really nice to not have to deal with eraser scraps all the time.

But now I have the issue of storage. It's kind of awkward to find a place for it.
