: isn't "opening " with the release of their PDS (Personal Data Server) [1]. They are pushing storage costs and traffic to users. That's all. You still need the proprietary, centralised relay to move content from/to users.

@jwildeboer i haven't followed the details closely, is their "federation" more of a distribution rather than a decentralization?

#redhat has these quarterly "recharge" days and i ,for one, love them. they are almost starting to feel like an internal holiday with people from across the globe wishing each other a "happy recharge" or similar.

in the grand scheme of workers' rights this is really small and perhaps insignificant, but it makes me happy.

happy recharge, to anyone and everyone ❤️

“I made a decision. I want to learn Go”

Replies I hoped for: “Cool! I won’t question your reasons out of respect and here are some links/books/code that helped me. Enjoy your journey!”

Replies I got: “you should learn Rust. Go sucks.”

Le sigh, people. When I share something I am looking for help and support. Not attacks.

(I’ll stick with Go. Just as I had an Atari 400 and not a Commodore 64 like almost all ;)

@jwildeboer apologies if i came off as ranting against go, definitely didn't mean it that way.

good luck with the journey =)

hey fellow kubernauts, i've been doing a lot of investigation around #karpenter and the #kubernetes cluster autoscaler and i've written up my thoughts into a post comparing the two technologies.

if you are currently evaluating these two applications, perhaps my opinions might help =)

I'm wondering what the best way to run a small Python server script 24/7 is...

I'm kinda wondering if I can setup a docker thing to make updating the script "easy" because I don't want to deal with Python versions.

elmiko,
@elmiko@fosstodon.org avatar

@gudenau container is probably what i would do, with either a pip install for my app or just straight from the code directory (in the container).

elmiko,
@elmiko@fosstodon.org avatar

@stfn @gudenau agreed about some small factor pi, they seem really convenient. that said, i don't have a ton of experience with the whole range.

i mostly use old laptops for this kind of stuff. i have a repurposed chromebook type thing with fedora on it that is perfect as a "server" for little stuff. it's only got 2gb ram, some weirdo x86 processor and wifi, so it has limitation, but it was cheap.

elmiko,
@elmiko@fosstodon.org avatar

@gudenau @stfn most definitely

    @deshipu thanks! it is definitely inspired by the original space hulk colors, i had totally forgotten about the amiga game, good times =)

    My first time actually 3D printing something today. I got the instructions off of thingiverse, sliced it to g-code, set up the filament, etc. Making something to store #Atari game cartridges.

    @vwbusguy that's awesome. i gave away most of my old 8/16 but systems to a friend who was building a game room. but i did keep a few gems like that swordquest comic =)

    the funny thing is my relatives started giving me their kids stuff "from the basement", so now i've got a c64 and a sega genesis (still in box with the Kohl's price tag!).

    Picked 2.7kg of plum tomatoes today for making sauce, from our very own Yorkshire tomato plantation (2 plants in a greenhouse on a hill in Huddersfield).

    The result admittedly isn't a huge amount of sauce but it's delicious and I'm stoked. Perhaps hard to justify greenhouse space for them, so will try some outdoors next year.

    Today at CPython core devs sprint in Brno:

    • exchange stories about travel, jetlag, and our "interesting" hotel/accommodation
    • several presentations about C- API by @iritkatriel, @encukou , @vstinner
    • presentation about what CPython can learn from HPy
    • @freakboy3742 became our newest Python Triage Member! 🎉

    As for myself, I chatted with @ambv about the state of our bots, (miss-islington and bedevere), and what we need to do to make them more reliable.

    • Most fun, least terrible, most generative, whatever.

    Disclosure: I'll never quote you without asking, but I am in research mode for a thing that will be public someday, in case that matters.
