Honest question for white people that don't consider themselves racist:

White nationalists have been vocal about their attacks on DEI. These are literally the same people that talk about Charlottesville, Jan 6th, and ethnic cleansing.

They've laid out exactly how they plan to destroy DEI.

  1. Make false claims that DEI is about giving unqualified Black people an unfair advantage

  2. Work with racist politicians to use this as a pretext to make all DEI programs illegal.

@mekkaokereke i've been fairly disgusted by the U.S. national media coverage of the Baltimore mayor after the Key bridge collapse. i can't see those attacks on DEI as anything other than racist dog whistles.

i like to think i'm lucky enough to work at an employer that stresses DEI in our business practices, but also through our community practices fostering open source software.

i haven't said those specific words about DEI to my peers, but i have voiced my disgust in a few venues.

Lol--after 15 years I finally resurrected my 1978 Kawasaki KZ400 "Reloaded"! I put nearly 50 miles on it today but for some reason the battery wasn't charging so I had to park it and put it on charge. I wonder what's wrong with it? ;)

one thing i really love about silverblue, and the like, is that once i get my /addition/ layer all smoothed out, it feels like rebasing my operating system when i upgrade, and i do kinda like that feel.

does feel weird to think about squashing my rpm commits XD

i'm guessing this will just getting better and better, and i'm here for it =)

#redhat has these quarterly "recharge" days and i ,for one, love them. they are almost starting to feel like an internal holiday with people from across the globe wishing each other a "happy recharge" or similar.

in the grand scheme of workers' rights this is really small and perhaps insignificant, but it makes me happy.

i'm super late to the dance between gitea and their community, and the subsequent forgejo fork. test driving #forgejo now, kudos to the devs for the smooth migration tooling.

i love David Lynch's #Dune movie, but there is a minor detail that really cracks me up.

when the guild navigator is leaving the initial visit with the emperor, their giant container thingie leaves a massive puddle of liquid waste behind it.

the other guild attendants give a completely half-hearted attempt at mopping up after the navigator.

not sure if Lynch intended it, but the disdain shown by the moppers totally captures the guild's attitude towards the entire galaxy.

@deshipu appreciate it ❤️ , i'm just using a venv for now. it's just a pain, because all i want to do is write some small scripts to help with debugging, and if the source data were in json that would be wonderful, but it's not...

i probably should install a system-wide version, but i seem to developer an aversion to installing dev packages into my root filesystem lol

I'm still slowly working on improving my homebrew CircuitPython game console. Recently I tackled the problem of screws – they don't work very well with the acrylic case, tend to either be too tight or fall off. So I tried something new: solderable nuts. They can be pick-and-placed and reflowed, and they give you very good way of getting the screws in.

I also experimented with a Xiao S3, but I think that I will switch to an ESP32-S3 WROOM module instead. More testing is required with the S3.

    @deshipu imo, there is a distinct lack of "FOSS 201" type content out there.

    as you mention, lots of how to get started, what i might call "FOSS 101", but not the followup parts.

    fwiw, i proposed a 201 style talk for devconf about how to make larger changes to projects. i think what you are proposing also sounds like good material to help folks.
