haviing successfully installed wordpress, I'm leaning more and more to keeping an rss feed somehow on a #neocities page.

neocities got the lowest rate of endorsement when I asked my mutuals about which platform they'd prefer to read my blog in, but neocities and gemini are the only remaining places I know where blogging can bring a smile to my face, and gemini isn't friendly for image-heavy blogs.

stop behaviour: telling random people you’ve never interacted with before to caption their images

replace with behaviour: replying to their post with an image description

advantages: not hostile towards people legitimately unable to caption; sufficiently annoying for the others but impossible to criticise; provides immediate value to people struggling to make sense of the picture; provides an example for what a caption should look like for those who are new to the feature

@hazelnot @skye I wish for "community captions". now that we can edit image descriptions in masto, it could work like

  • uncaptioned images get a little red icon for "please add description"
  • image OP gets a notification with the suggested caption
  • they can approve or reject with one click

it's one of these weird lacunae in computing that even now that touch screens are commonplace and any computer can handle images in a breezy, somehow image and text remain divorced realms. there's nothing in computing that even approaches a handmade zine in fluidity of composing image and text flowing along, interacting with and superposing one another on the canvas.

I have a 100L plastic water tank with a finger-thick round hole near the bottom. I covered the hole with epoxy and let it dry well for a couple days, then covered it with duct tape, but with a full tank it still leaks. What's a good way to patch this securely? :boosts_ok_gay:

current suggested solutions for my leaky water tank in my chat include:

"put a bucket under the leak and a small water level activated pump" and (Inga:)

"add some stuff to the water to increase its viscosity, seal the tank from the top" (Inga) and

"just put tank in the shallow open tub, fill the tub with water just to slightly above the hole, seal the tank from the top, let atmospheric pressure do its thing.
(this will only work with tanks up to 10 meters high, depending on the weather)"

it's kind of sad to me that conservationists have to think in capitalistic terms like "bang for your buck". I know I'm sounding bitchy here but it's not really hyperbole when I claim that this pattern of thought is what causes the problem in the first place.

I don’t understand how people can go about their days not wondering what the fuck happened to all of the insects. Those of us who took road trips in the 1980s can recall how our windshields would be covered in splattered bugs. You’d have to clean the windshield every time you got gas on the road.

Now, I’ll take a two or three hour drive and have maybe one or two.

Insects form the largest amount of biomass on the planet and are what the entire food web depends on. Without them, we’re done.

@wegonnaseeno a third of earthworms in the UK are dead and I don't know how people can just go on with their lives. when I see glyphosate on the shelves of the gardening center I want to start breaking things.
